Weather was crappy yesterday so we took the girls to hobby lobby to spend some Christmas cash. Found this gem, luckily the wife is much of a Jeep freak as me so hanging it in the living room was a no brainer.

Drove up to the mountains, pulled off the side of the road and enjoyed the view!

Finally got a chance to see what the Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ P3s would do in the greasy stuff. I never came close to getting stuck, and I wheeled the whole "long loop" on my favorite trail. Before I get too excited pounding my chest, a new friend in a Toyota Tacoma went everywhere I did, though I kept having to let him catch up, and I did skip the two worst obstacles for his sake.

The biggest problem of the day was my Apex autoLynx. Ain't no getting those to hook back up when your wheel wells are completely entombed in ice. It took four pitchers of hot water, a torch, and a pry bar to get them hooked back up in my driveway. Oh well.

I stopped in this parking lot to pee the dog, and that's when I met my new friend. He asked me if I was about to go wheeling. He was scared to go it alone. Well, as it happens, I know this trail quite well, and I'm stupid enough to try it, so let's go for it! (We had to go around a snow plow going up the mountain. The snow plow was stuck. My buddy in the Taco also got stuck, and I had to give him a yank. Honestly, I would have quit at that point myself, if I hadn't been wheeling with a friend. It was a good day to wheel with a partner, just in case.)

After we got off pavement, it was evident we were not the first idiots to head up the mountain this day.

After we got to the spot where I air down, we were the only idiots to make that left. From there to the fire tower, I was squinting at the ripples in the snow, trying to figure out where I was on the trail. I didn't get any good pictures of those conditions.

By the time we got to the fire tower, the Jeep was caked in frozen mud.

Finally, back home in the driveway, I finally got the sway bar reconnected. The icy mud is going to be on this thing for awhile. Oh, I hosed the undercarriage down with FluidFilm last night, incidentally.

Last evening, I went to Advance Auto to replenish my spare engine oil & filter inventory. K&N is one of the qualifying filter brands, which is great, and this particular promotion included a free bottle of Star-Tron (my preferred fuel preservative.) Having a $5 Speed Perks reward reduced my bill to a tick over $30.00. That's a good deal no matter how one looks at it.

The store's inventory of oil, particularly 5 qt. jugs, is and has been observably low for some time (the shelves that are out of frame look worse.) A similar optic is evident at Auto Zone, where I also shop.

I've not seen this in the 30+ years that I've been DIYing my auto maintenance. Gather ye 5W-30 while ye may.

I had considered buying a bottle of plastic trim treatment, but it's apparently reserved for angry bird grille owners. This makes me sad.

This morning, I went to Costco to purchase few builder-grade gourmet food items. (Be honest; that's exactly how they should be described. )

My Missus gave me this collapsible insulated bag to carry with me "because it's red, like your Jeep." If I'm honest, it's been very handy to have for cold grocery items. The brand is California Innovations, if you or your Missus are interested.

And a bit of lap time with Dorian when I got home.

Well Mr. James looks like you had a very resourceful morning trip. My Jeep sat in garage while I walked to store. After our little 3-day arctic cold spell I needed the exercise so I could stretch my legs. My reward for being healthy was this. NO milk.

My Sir Henrik (Lord of the Manor) considers himself a Lap Cat full time. He lived in a creek in the woods for how long I do not know. I recused him 10 years ago and he is very humble.

I keep six filled 20L NATO fuel containers on hand in the shed year-round. I do so to hedge against emergencies, and for periodic drawing down (to feed the mowers, etc.) for the sake of rotating fuel stocks. The Star-Tron is an effective treatment that compensates for the presence of corn liquor if I don't make the trip to the adjoining county for ethanol-free fuel when filling the NATO cans.

I'm not a fan of the angry bird grills either. This reminded me of a video on Jeep Gear and Gadgets a couple years ago. Cassie had seen a tip to use peanut butter to restore the appearance of plastic trim. She tried it and it worked reasonably well. I used to work in the plastics industry and vegetable oils are sometimes used as plasticizers. So peanut oil would probably have worked just as well and would be a lot less messy!

I'm just back home from a 5.5 hour shift of driving Spouse and Offspring around on a variety of errands. The new shoes acquitted themselves well. From experience, there were any number of familiar intersections, etc. where I should have lost my footing, but didn't. Put a price on peace of mind, right?

While we were oot and aboot, Offspring received an email advising her that she just made Dean's List. And so we put a bow on the afternoon with a fine repast at Longhorn Steakhouse.

'Twas a sloppy day for all and sundry.
