I think the main difference is in comparing a Sport to a Rubicon.

The Sport's gear ratios, tire size, and reduced weight have to affect the mileage. With my Sport, I always beat the mileage figures on the sticker, and on long highway trips, the mileage is pretty amazing for a Jeep.
I think you’re right about the gear ratio. I think the weight isn’t as much of a factor as the gears are. Can’t say I’ve beat the mileage figures yet. That’s great that yours does.

Went to Rausch to shake down my best friend's '81 Scrambler we just finished rebuilding. We only had to limp her off the trail once after she ate a power steering belt, but we found one at the local parts store and got back after it.

I can't wait for my winter off season, when I get enough time to be able to escape new Yorks illegal everything. I'm planning on spending time at Rausch creek and AOAA in the late fall/early winter, and Windrock later in the winter.

Hopefully, I'll get to meet some of you guys and gals and can get a jeep tour of your neck of the woods. Until then, I keep busy with getting my wrangler dialed in.

So last week we went back to Ouray Co. Took Brutus to Imogene Pass, Last Dollar Road, and Yankee Boy Basin. If you've never been, I HIGHLY encourage you to go. So may great trails. In the pics below, I saw a JT parked in front of Colorado West Jeep rentals that had stadium seating in the back. Saw a pretty funny Big Foot pic on a side of a Jeep, and finally put our new tailgate table to good use.

Oh that makes sense
thats due to gearing. rubicon's come with 4.10 gearing where as the sport comes with 3.45 gearing. im sure with the 4.10 and 33's fuel isnt to much lower than the sports though. all really depends on the acc and if your costing to stop points instead of gasing to the last second and braking hard at each stop. That kills MPG

The Rubi tires are also much heavier and stiffer, the extra height creates more aerodynamic drag.

In city traffic I can get much better mpg with a stick but after a few years of living here I got tired of having to "row" my way thrthrough traffic and we've now gone to auto

Over the weekend we went out to George Washington National Forest and did Peters Mill Run. Hopefully will get the badge; filled out the form but never got the email they said would come.

Had to do some "primitive camping" as we were a day early for open campgrounds (despite the forest service website saying they had reopened) but it worked out as we just used our DeepSleep mattress and pizza oven to cook some food. Actually saved some money as we didn't have to pay for the camp site. Saw a couple other Jeeps on the trail, but no JLs.

Did you apply for the badge on the phone app, or is there another way?

Used the phone app. Only had cell coverage at one end and the app kept crashing but we did get “confirmation” of submission.
