Yup, those plastic fenders are tough. An Accura hit me about a year ago as I was making a turn. He ended with a pretty big dent on his right side. I ended with a minor scratch on the bottom of the fender. I thought I had lost it completely upon impact, but no, it was still there, intact and like new.We've been spending some of our time up at our cabin in Broken Bow, OK- where there are plenty of forestry trails to ride. I decided to try out all the lights I'd added (which did the job), but we- um, I- got going a little too fast and took a chunk out of a tree. In fact, we hit it hard enough to jam a bunch of wood between my KMC rim and the bead- which proceeded to deflate the tire.
We managed to limp back to the cabin, and the next day we attacked the wheel with tire irons, screwdrivers, and pliers. It took two hours, but we pulled all the wood out and got the tire re-inflated. Amazingly, although we slipped with the tire irons at least a dozen times, at the end of it all the KMC wheel cleaned up to look pretty much brand new- no scuffs at all! I don't know what the coating on these wheels is, but it's pretty tough! Lesson learned, I'll watch my speed on burn trails from now on!
PS- The factory front fender flare hit the tree hard enough to pop the side light out, but I got it back in place, and- aside from a few scuffs- it's in pretty good shape too. Those plastic flares are tougher than I would have thought...
GREAT PLATE !!!We were finally able to get back up to Browns Camp. Ran the Badge of Honor trails (again). Saw a few people unloading in the staging areas but, only saw one other person on the trails.
Which trails did you do? I’m heading out there this weekend and looking for some recs!Did some family isolation/social distancing in Sedona on one of the permit required trails - no one else out there!
