Almost a week late but I headed out to Pine Barrens last Friday. Beautiful fall day, amazing fall weather and very peaceful. It wasnā€™t very busy so I had the time to check out Batsto Village and grab a quick bite at Sweetwater Marina.

The Pine Barrens is in Jersey, about two hours from NY. Most of the trails are pretty much just dirt or sugar sand roads, some bouncy, some a little wet but nothing most 4wdā€™s canā€™t handle. Itā€™s been pretty dry up for the past month so I didnā€™t run into much mud or water on the trail. If you head out there after it just rained, be prepared in case you get into deeper mud hole than anticipated. Itā€™s a great spot for beginners to learn how their 4x4 works and what all the levers and buttons are for lol. Thereā€™s also some more difficult ā€œtrailsā€ that are pretty hidden, but not many. Stag Hill being one mentioned, but thereā€™s a lot to explore here that is not marked on the OnXroad app.

Most of the drive was pretty calm, put the new rubicon to use. I left the Off-Road plus button on since it claimed to help with gearing/torque/xyz but Iā€™m not sure if felt much of a difference. Wonder if itā€™s bc I have a 6spd. Towards the end of the day, with the sun starting to set, I came across a a decent sized puddle on the trail. Got out, used a stick and tested the depth which seemed to be do-able with 4hi. I made the mistake of not double checking.

Yea that did not work lol. The middle of the puddle had to been about 26inches deep and my back wheels sunk. Opened the door, looked down, stepped out and to my surprise, my shins were covered in mud. Way deeper than I anticipated. Made me weary of touching the clutch so forced it into 4l, rear and front lockers on, and put the 4.88 gears to use. Crawled right out. Got very very lucky. Was solo with no winch so very lucky

Besides that, a pretty nice and calm trip. If anyone is around Jersey, the parks are beautiful this time of the year. Spent the next day cleaning the carpet and seats lol. Time to invest in seat covers.

I took a drive in my Jeep to check out another Jeep that was listed on FB Marketplace only to be hugely disappointed. This was the pic from the ad and when I got there it was sitting in a field rusting away and covered in cobwebs. Paint on the hood was mostly gone, rust holes in the body and the springs/shocks were completely covered in rust also.

I asked if I could test drive it and the guy said I could only drive it once I handed over cash and paid for it.

Asking 14k. šŸ˜‚

I guess now I know better questions to ask before driving out to see something. I figured someone who owned something like this wouldn't be out there to try and scam you but I guess I was too trusting. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Man, itā€™s one thing to be catfished by ugly datesā€¦ but catfished for a rusty Jeep?! Thatā€™s just too far!

Cried a bit. Dealer wanted 85 bucks for the exhaust clamp that another dealer screwed up six months ago when I did the clutch recall. Best price I found was 30 online.. would have reused the one on the Jeep but they screwed it to heck. Hoping the new one will be here next week so I can clean the joint and reseal the mid pipe

What mountain is that?
The photo on the very top is Mount Shuksan, right next to Mount Baker.

The second is Goat Mountain, and the trail photos are on Winchester Mountain.
