Been working on this one for awhile, but I’m really happy with how it’s turning out. Still gotta install the compressor, but got the painting and switch panel done. Wanna give credit to @foolsgoldgladiator on Instagram who gave me the inspiration.

It is fair to say that mounting the spare on the gate is not ideal. However, that is the same for the Wrangler, Defender, and Bronco. There are only 2 reasons for it: clearance and style.

Thinking about this: do the Recons get a heavier duty hinge/gate?

Not that I am aware of--it is the same tailgate and hinges. The only thing is it comes with the Mopar tailgate reinforcement from the factory. As most will attest, it helps, but only some. I had it and the Mopar spare tire relocation kit and it helped, but over time, the studs started pulling out of the spare tire relocation kit. I made a new set out of stainless steel with back welded studs, but then the hinges would loosen over time and the tailgate would sag and it would rattle when going over bumps and the like.

I installed a @CavFab_mfg tire carrier and sold the Mopar stuff. Once you go above a light 35" tire, you have to seriously look into replacing the entire hinge and carrier to something more heavy duty. Very happy with the CavFab--it uses 12 bolts to hold the tailgate and the tailgate is no longer load bearing. The four bolts to the left of the gold ones on the hinges are where the OEM hinges attach to the tailgate. Look at the span that is unsupported versus the CavFab.

Maximus-3 stinger bar, Baja Design LP6’s, and pixel decals bronze warn decal overlay installed. Oh, I also removed the bumper ends. Really happy with the way the front turned out.

Got my metalcloak undercloak skid system put on, and replaced the front factory drive shaft. No clearance issues with my Borla exhaust. All I got left to install from the goodies I ordered at the end of November is diff covers and skids, and my cavfab tire carrier which is out getting powder coated!

The XR's do get the reinforced hinge system for the 315 size spare. Extremely stable. I am an engineer, and would glance at this and say it is quite adequate without even having to do calcs. Very substantial.

I have MC on my diesel JL and its the best. They cover the rear DEF and all the smog crap. Looks good. Go out and enjoy life while we are still alive during this BS pandemic.

Changed the standard Rubicon rock rails for Rugged Ridge Nerf Side Steps. Well made and a great fit !

Finally got my Jeep done. Finished the install of the Paramount Hydro Series fender flares, DV8 front inner fender liners, Paramount rear inner fender liners and Quadratec Brute Strength side steps/rocker guards. Also installed Rough Country 2” wheel spacers to help fill out the new fender flares. It was a busy weekend!

Love this idea...do you have the oem part numbers handy? Did you paint that body piece or it came color matched?

The cowl comes unpainted, but it only cost me $130 to get painted at my local body shop. Definitely worth it to me, as my color is real hard to match.

Do you have the spring numbers you used? I first bought some Rubicon take-offs, eneded up with same spring numbers as my stock Willy’s JLU.
