It absolutely 100% is worth the drive IMHO. Truly one of the best national parks I've been to in the west/southwest for vistas, sense of scale, and fun to be had while in the park. Off-roading, hiking, soaking in the hot springs next to the Rio Grande, wrapping the day back in Terlingua at the Starlight Theater, etc, was just a great time. Even the locals/tourists people-watching added to the fun. LOL There are definitely all types coming to this area. You'll see what I mean... Bottom line, though: worth it. And Black Gap itself was a lot of fun. We did it after driving the 27.5-mile River Road West and heading from south-to-north on Black Gap (most people go the other direction, as you'll see on the YouTube videos...). It was a blast. There were a few technical areas, but nothing overly major compared to some, and it was a lot of fun to drive through the beautiful scenery. I think you'd really enjoy it.So was Black Gap a great run? It's about 5.5hrs from us so not too bad, but only if it's worth the drive, and it sounds like it is
