What did you do TO your Jeep JL today?

I started plan B of my audio build. I decided to just buy a box from Crutchfield. It ended up being only slightly more expensive than I could have built it for.
Next, I cut out the original sub enclosure and carpeted the rear section.
Next, I will build in se wood around it to tie it in. Carpet that wood, and recarpet the box to match.

The difference in how the sub sounds in a well built box vs the modified stock Alpine enclosure was worth the hassle.

How did you carpet the rear section? Where did you get the carpet, what kind of adhesive. Very curious as to how it is done.

The carpet is Metra. I got it from Crutchfield as well. It is very easy to work with. There are some really good YouTube vids on how to carpet interior trim, that would be more helpful than me trying to explain it. As for adhesive, I just used spray headliner adhesive. It's honestly quite easy.

So it’s my understanding that the Lox for the Rotopax can have a rust problem like most locks when exposed to the elements and especially road salt and debris. I’m going to try to prevent that. We’ll see if this goes well.

I’m surprised something like this hasn’t been professionally produced. It wouldn’t cost much at all. I used olive oil as a release agent. lol

I’m not sure how to upload multiple pics with their own annotation. Looking on the inside, you can see the raised spot that is the parting line between the two segments of the lock. This will act as a snap.

I notched the ends (see pic) because there was interference with it going all the way on due to the circle shaped step (also pictured) around the opening in the Rotopax.

This was 10 dips and one wet coat of this Glossifier that says it’s a UV protectant. Perhaps that will help durability. Again, I only plan to install these as needed. 

Though the finish isn’t perfect due to the tiny bubble marks, they came out pretty decent. I let the dip thicken too much over the course of two days before I got some Naptha to thin it out and make it easier to keep these tiny bubbles at bay. I also switched from the duct tape pictured to blue painters tape to keep the dip out of the lock. Whatever imperfection you see in the beginning before dipping (crumpled tape) will show. I had to restart.

Wow. It was $7 per can at Lowe’s. I bought 3 but only needed 2. I needed a can of Naptha as well because even keeping it covered in the now distorted Ziploc container couldn’t prevent the dip from getting thicker over the course of 2 days.

My last coat was thinned out and helped a small amount with appearance and the tiny bubbles creating little poc marks after drying. If I do it again, I’ll be on top of keeping the consistency constant even if it means more coats. You don’t want it any thinner than it is right out of the can at first though. It actually helps prevent the dip from creeping through cracks too far and getting where you DON’T want it. After the first or second coat I’d feel more comfortable thinning the dip more.

Really, looking at the final thickness, I could go with a higher dip count. It’s difficult to tell where you are on thickness though. The only thing to go off of is the detail disappearing with more

No. Went on ok. The Z clips were not easy at first. Just watch the videos that are out there. That helps.

Trying to get rid of any salt that the undercarriage sprays at touchless car washes didn't get.
Is it normal to have surface rust? Can you paint over it?

Surface rust on the undercarriage is normal. Don’t paint over rust imo. Instead treat it with some rust to primer converter and then paint.

Added a Body Armor rear cargo rack. Super easy install.

I have that rack. It is way over built and that's a good thing.

Sanded primed and painted. Even though i used the mopar paint its a shade lighter or so then the vehicle which im kinda bummed about. But they came out awesome

Did the visor repair today after my driver side dropped out of the roof on Monday. Can’t believe how cheap the little plastic retainer was. Seat jackers go in today.
