Iā€™m finally done with MPFSWN. I mocked it up using 1/2ā€ cheap plywood in phase 1, and when we got it right we bought some quality 3/4ā€ plywood. The only part bolted or screwed in is the base in the back, which will remain throughout most of the year. Both, or either, the 40% and 60% can be removed and stored in the trunk in under a minute. Iā€™ll need to buy a 60% delete bracket from goose gear to take out the seat though. That will cost almost half as as much as the rest of the project. All in Iā€™ve about $200 in it. The automotive carpet was $70. The plywood $100 and glue, paint, etc about $30. It fits together very tight with no rattling at all.

This is my first wood working project ever so donā€™t me too mean with the comments. Lol.

I did what many have done before me, the B&M shifter, it was Xmas gift. Thanks Santa. I wish B&M would make one for the automatic transmission, I think they could come up with something. Maybe they could rig up a collar for the lockout push button like the manuals reverse. The transfer shifter is badass, I think having both would be badasser..........šŸ˜Ž...... a sign of the times, thereā€™s my mask, and hand sanitizer......šŸ™‚

I installed a pair of Infinity REF-3032CFX speakers in the dashboard. They were purchased from Crutchfield.

Sold by Crutchfield as plug-and-play for the 2018+ Wrangler, the speakers and the provided Metra wiring adapters were anything but.

First, removal of the OEM speakers. Note the flush & precise fit. (The speaker grills were pried off with no drama.)

The Infinity speakers are fractionally taller than the OEM units, and notably heavier.

The Metra adapters plug in securely. So far, so good.

The ears on the Infinitys are just wide enough to foul proper fitment. Strike one.

Also, after reviewing the wiring legend in the provided Master Sheet installation document, I noticed that the adapters were assembled in reverse: the Positive factory wire would have connected to the speaker's Negative terminal, etc. The male and female terminals are different widths, so a simple reversal wasn't possible. Strike two.

I used one of my terminal disassembly pin tools to remove and reinstall them in the correct +/- configuration.

I then used my dikes to cut off a portion of one ear on each speaker, and dressed the cuts with my Dremel. Note that the Infinity speakers do sit proud in the dashboard, meaning the remaining screw cannot be turned all the way down. The speakers don't make contact with the plastic grills after reinstallation, however.

All of the foregoing was discussed with Crutchfield Tech Support during the installation process. They placed a note in my purchase record regarding their approving the aforementioned cuts to each speaker's ear. Said differently, if I want to return the speakers within the one year guarantee period for a refund, I'll still be allowed to do so.

When I asked Tech Support if our conversation would lead them to modify the product's ad copy on their website, I was advised that our convo "would be sent forward for review." No guarantees, though. Well, I've done my part.

---------------------

After everything was buttoned back up, I went for a drive. The purpose was to listen to the new speakers in their usual environment, so to speak. While I'm not an audiophile, I've always believed that the midrange of the factory speakers was flat. Wanting to see if there was any improvement, I had two test songs cued up.

The first one tests a bit of everything: treble, midrange and bass.

The second song was the litmus test. With this song turned up, either you have good midrange, or you don't. No middle ground.

Was the installation bodge worth it? Yes.

The aural improvement was immediately and plainly evident. The contrast between the factory speakers and the Infinitys was loud, clean and clear. The music now requires less volume for the same volume, if that makes sense. Previously a potato-faced SJW, the midrange was now an All-American coed. Color me convinced. Money well spent; doubly so since the speakers were purchased at a great sale discount.

As an FYI, I just installed these in the dash of my 2020 JLU WILLYS and they did not require any trimming. I had the same issue with Metra polarity. I also soldered in the capacitors and have no issue with popping that some others have experienced. Noticeable improvement over stock.
