What did you do TO your Jeep JL today?

Hi there. That ring light looks like it matches the red of the taillights better than other similar rings I have seen. Do you have a link to the one you bought? Thanks!

This is the light, I direct wired it in line with the third brake light and did a plate relocation with third brake light. With the plate there, it doesn’t show quite as good, but still looks good.

Was that hard to install?

Honestly it wasn’t bad. I unrolled the vinyl a week ago so that it wasn’t curled as bad. Then I let Jeep and vinyl sit in the sun for a bit. It was like 90 degrees so both were warm. After that, took like 20 minutes. Once the top is lined up and centered, you just work toward the bumper. Then pulled back out in the sun and worked the edges a little more. When I got done, I felt silly I waited a whole year to install.

I mounted my hoist in the attic of the garage, it allowed for higher lift and only one hole into the garage.

I wish I could. My attic up there is a walking attic for storage which would be awesome but the lift I’m looking at has 4 holes I would need. Just too much of a pain for a few inches. My ceilings are 10’5” so I’m not worried about height as much as placement. I got obstacles all over the place.

I finally got my shocks dialed in and my bump stops set.

I couldn’t add any more height to my ramp , as it was getting to far forward.....

So I scrapped it, and built a new one. This ones out of 2x12s, and it’s 43” tall. That’s as high as I can go and keep all wheels on the ground .......

In regard to the caps... The 3D Caps for the Door Locks that I mentioned the other day have been designed, 3D printed (using ABS) and are on the way across the USA to me in New York, via USPS. I should have them by the end of the week.

I will install right away, and if they are as terrific as I expect/have been led to believe, well, I will let the 3D print guy know and then he will be making them available right away to all here that want a set..

As I mentioned, no profit motivation by the guy, 3D printing them. A fellow JL owner that is doing us all a solid, lets say.

By the way, did you ever look real close at the chrome door locks that we will be covering... Well, the diameter of the ones on the door are a different diameter then the one on the tail gate. Also, if you look real close you will notice that the tail gate one, is actually thinner then the ones on the doors...

With that said, the 3D printer guy /designer, had his work cut out for him in regard to measuring, design and such..

I have to give him credit.. Rather then coming up with a cap / 3D printing a cap, that one size fits all loosely, and you have to use double tape them on to get them to stay on, he professionally, designed caps that fit each lock very tightly.. so tightly you really do not need to use double sided tape....

I do plan to use double sided tape though .. I'll use double sided tape as a tad extra bit of security, as to not see the caps(s) blowing off and ending up in Brazil or somewhere else. 8-)

Here is a cut a way pic the printer sent me.... it shows a cut away / half of the cap that will be sent to me. Notice the way it fits/ conforms... real tight..

So, I just wanted to let all that expressed interest, that the custom cap(s) is a reality.

Will be available soon. Just need another opinion on them, to find tune the mailing of same and then a link will go up where you can get them.

I want to thank the 3D printer guy, once again. He really isn't going to make money on these. When you see what he is charging you will understand what I am saying and why I'm thanking him.

LOL - we have that in common - I have had a skin for my MacBook for about 6 months and just keep putting it off because I want it perfect. I also have to remove a plain back decal before putting this one on. Ugh.

I may be interested in a set as well. Will they have the 3D printed layers that the filament leaves or will the be a smooth finish? Picture of the section view look like it has the filament layers but may not be the best picture

I got in touch with the fellow that designed the cap / 3D printed the cap(s)

After printing of the caps he has a process where he smooths the surface of the caps. The smoothing process is minimally invasive.

So, you get the bare cap, and then you would seal / coat it with say 303 protectorant..

I plan to coat each cap with Turtle Wax. Ice Seal & Shine, which seals the surface, providing increased durability and UV protection and then a coat of 303 over that.

I'll refresh that every 3 months or less.

Anyway, here is a pretty close up picture of the cap after the 3D printer guy, smooths the surface. This is the way it looks raw, lets say... no 303, etc..

Remember, you are not going to be eyeballing these caps with a microscope or closely scrutinizing them after install.

YES, I'm OCD, so I'll let you know what I think of the caps outward appearance when I get one in my hands.

I’ve been busy over the last few days installing birthday gifts from my family...and myself. First was the side blinkers that replaced the fake side vents. Next I replaced my rear bumper and modified a license plate frame to add on because I didn’t want it in the spare tire. To keep things legal I had to install a license plate light also...very JK looking. I then replaced my fogs with halo fogs, and added brush guards to my headlights, and completed it all with the replacement of my side markers with the clear version. I’m going to go broke if COVID continues. Next I’m looking at some tube doors because my wife doesn’t like being in the naked Jeep and it may be best so I don’t get in trouble constantly taking my 13 year old son out with him begging me to go on the freeway.
