If you want little poke don’t run anything past a -6 at most and I would really recommend 0. You will have a little then but not much. For reference mine is a -18 on a 19 sport JLU s.

I’m with you. I don’t like the look of the tires sticking out way past the flares. A little is ok, but not much.
The best wheels I’ve found with the perfect backspacing are the Quadratec ones. They’ve got 5.2 backspace on 8.5” wide wheels. Which prevents rubbing without sticking out. Plus they’re hub centric like the Jeep was designed to be. They’re probably some of the only wheels that were specifically designed for Jeep’s. A lot of their designs look like the factory wheels too. Check em out.

Those are good sets, that 5.2 backspacing (+25 offset on 8.5" width) is best for the wider Rubicon axles though, on the JL Sport you may run into clearance issues at the inner fender/suspension areas w/a Mopar lift and 35s. I run a 8.5 +10 on 295/70s on Rubicon suspension and still have a bit of room at full lock and articulation but not too much. Think I could get away w/a 315/70/17 tire w/ not a hair to spare :)

I’m currently running -12 offset 17” KMCs with 37” tires on my Rubicon with the Mopar lift. No rubbing at all. The pictures below show my Jeep before the lift running 35s on the same -12 offset wheels. The sport with the Mopar lift should have plenty of room for 35s.

John,

Sports don't have as wide of an axle as the Rubicon. That means the end hubs are naturally closer the vehicle's centerline. So backspacing on wider (rather than taller) tires is what you really need to be concerned with. The narrower the tire, the more clearance you'll have at any backspace.

A lift is certainly required for any tire size larger than 33" diameter on a Sport, but the wheel offset is really the primary factor for tire width. Clearly the more 'poke', the more clearance you'll have between the tire and inside fender well.

For me, I rather like the bad-ass look of a little bit of 'poke', especially on a good All-Terrain tire. This is where your Jeep looks like it seriously means business. However, everyone has their own preferences.

Still, only you can determine the amount of clearance that will be required for the way you are going to want to drive your rig. For me, serious (but not insane) off-roading was my primary goal. I wanted a way more capable on-trail setup for my Sport S.

Only for reference here is what I decided upon: (please make up your own mind, don't let anyone tell you what's best, including me)

Mopar 2.5" Lift. (for warranty concerns)
Goodyear Duratrac All-Terrain 35x12.5x17s
Fuel Ammo Anthracite 17x9 -12mm offset
Teraflex Sway-Bar Disconnects

I have never rubbed my rubber on any trail yet. The 4.5" backspacing with this setup is working for me precisely as I intended. I really like the wider stance this setup provides. I couldn't be any happier. Smile from ear to ear.

Jay

Sorry to hijack this thread but O dont see much info on wheel poke. Im looking at 315s with +1mm offset so it says they will be 2.29" further out than stock, I'll like the wider look but does that present any other downsides? Gravel flinging, extreme spray in rain etc. Thanks

Gravel flinging will depend on your tread. I run Toyo open country at2 and have no issues with gravel or stones hitting my doors or hinges. Water on the other hand is different. If I hit any kind of standing water, puddle etc. the side of my rig is covered in it. Same thing with snow and slush. I only have the rubicon rock rails on it right now. I just ordered a set of nerf bars with steps that I am hoping will minimize this.
