That looks incredible - fantastic job. Does anyone know if there are roof racks that will not interfere with the Sky One Touch power top? To carry a Kayak or Surfboard? Thanks!

That looks awesome. Nice work! I’ve been reading some reviews on this DeeZee rack and had a few questions for you:

1. how has your painted hardtop held up? Have you noticed any scratching, scuffing from installing / uninstalling the rack?

2. How’s the wind noise? (I wouldn’t have the basket, more so curious what it’s like cruising at highway speeds with just the rack. Is it tolerable or would you advise just taking it off when not using it?)

Bump!

DeeZee just went straight to the top of my roof rack list.

I carefully placed the DeeZee rack/clamps in the spot I wanted them and have not moved them. I suspect they will mar the painted finish but I plan on leaving the basic rack on... The DeeZee does have wind noise vs no rack over about 60mph. It's not loud but more like a low frequency buzz. When talking to your passenger with the windows up, ya can't hear it...with the radio on, ya can't hear it. With the windows down, ya can't hear it...but it is there if you look for it. The stock BFG Ko's are more noisy than the rack...

Actually, since I got the basket back from powder coat, I have not had it on the highway. The plan was to use the basket only when I needed it, hence the easy on/off design, but if it turns out quiet enough, I may just leave it on...

I'll post my results.

Just got back from a highway run and...it's quieter with the basket installed than it was with just the DeeZee rack. Evidently the basket breaks the airflow and turbulence as the wind runs through the structure. As I mentioned before, it was not wind noise but a harmonic frequency being excited on the DeeZee forward crossbar...a buzzing sound, that is entirely gone now...all is good, probably going to leave it on more than off.

Just ordered the DeeZee roof rack. Looking for a large cargo basket for the rear part of the rack. Does anyone know of one that would work with the DeeZee roof rack.

I do not have a roof rack at the moment. Since I have a 2 doors and want to install a RTT, my best options are Garvin or Gobi style cage rack. I found a shop that would make me a Gobi rack this winter. I can custom mount all of my accessories like Ad, Shovel, MaxTraxx, jack, cargo boxes and extra gasoline. It is pricey, but like I said, it's my best option and to will be unique.

I think if people aren't in a rush and keep looking, they can find something locally that makes what they are looking for. There are lots of upsides to this; the price is usually the same and you might get little extras, you don't have to deal with the item getting damage during shipping, if something goes wrong, it might be a phone call and a 30 minutes drive to have the issues fixed and lastly, it's good for the local economy.

I have LOD sliding roof rack. Exoskeleton rack like Gobi's, but much quicker to ship and also slides out.

It's hard to see the back of the Jeep.
Where or what does it attaches to?
Thanks

It mounts via brackets inside the taillight space. The only thing is you will need to dremel part of your taillight housing to put it back in with the brackets in place.

Nice rig.
How has the wind noise been over the stock setup. A little worse or a lot?
What ended you having you going LOD vs Gobi?

My mind melted a little bit when I saw that slide out rack. I've never seen that before. Very interesting... So, you can slide it out, deploy your tent, support with the ladder and it gives you some cover underneath??

Oh the story with wind....I battled a lot with it honestly. Originally I had the soft top, premium version. With the rack unloaded, with nothing on top, the top flapped like crazy about 45+ mph. I bought foam insulation piping from home depot or lowe's, and wrapped it around the crossbars and put the bars on the lower rung of bars, and that helped a bit with the flapping as the foam would be kind of braced against the top. But still, on windy days the noise is loud, especially if it blows the side of the soft top off the rails. After a long time, when it was finally time to pick up my tent, I mounted my Roam case in front of it beforehand. And holy crap, it fixed 95% of the flapping, and really that is the most annoying part. The wind noise is a bit worse, but it's the flapping that was the issue. So I was annoyed at myself for not doing it earlier. Then I put the tent on, and it was ok on nonwindy days, but on windy days the noise is quite loud, and this time really due to the wind and not the flapping.

So I said eff it, I bought a used hardtop to see if it helped, and it did. Hardtop solved 90% of the wind noise I had with the case, the tent, and soft top. I now have hothead headliners, and that helped another 5%, so in my purely scientific :)P) evaluation the noise is just 5% worse than stock Jeep with the soft top.

I think the flapping of the soft top is due to the softer material of the premium version. The standard version with the sailcloth I think shouldn't flap, as the material is hard enough to withstand the wind.

I chose the LOD for several reasons. It was a little cheaper than the GOBI for the sliding version when I got it for sale on Black Friday last year, so that was a no-brainer due to the extra functionality/utility of the bed slide. Also, when I bought the rack I had no intention of ever getting rid of the soft top, so it was easier to lower the top with the slide out version of the LOD compared to the flip out version of the GOBI. Aesthetics wise I love how the LOD looks compared to the GOBI, and also the shipping times. I received mine in 6 - 8 weeks like LOD quoted me, GOBI I've heard many horror stories about lead times. I met this stranger in a JL at our local offroad park last year. He bought the ikamper and GOBI rack at the same time, both companies quoted him 6 months. He said perfect, both will come at same time. ikamper came in 3 months, GOBI in 12 months. He was pissed he had to store his ikamper in his garage for 9 months before being able to use it.

Sorry for the paragraphs, but hope this helps! If you have any other questions, let me know. I do have a few gripes, but mainly I love the rack a lot.
