Well guess what...I called DeeZee in Des Moines IA and they told me the rack I'm looking at is MADE IN IOWA! Guess who is going to get an order...

I'll still need to come up with a basket or tray, but we're on the right track.

Here's the link: DeeZee JL Roof Rack
That's Awesome I was born and raised in Des Moines. I never knew they were made there? Well I guess that just moved them to the top of my list.

Check out exposed racks, heard great things about them. They have a weight distribution system that lets you carry crazy amount of weight for a non-drill system. They also have brackets so you can use them topless. And if you get their click-in system ones, they have all of these click in accessories seems pretty cool.

With that said, I ordered some and been waiting for them for about a month, they should've been here way before so I don't know wth is going on, probably covid related. So if you wanna order them make sure to check what the deal is and if they are even still making them.

I had an order through a business months ago, was never fulfilled. I kept calling them and they kept saying they needed materials and were having backlogs cause of covid. Guess what, last week I found out they filed for bankruptcy, now I am dealing with it trying to get my money back....

DeeZee gets $600 on their website today. I found one at a California shop, selling the last one for $450 on E-Bay. Snatched it up, gonna be here next week. Once I get it here I think I'll go about building a basket/cage and send it off to be power coated. I'm guessing I'll have $200 in material and power coat custom built.

I'll post pictures when it's done...

I use the Rhino-Rack with the Pioneer platform which I like because I have a rooftop tent and an awning, etc. I haven't experienced any leaks in the holes I've drilled but I used butyl. The install was arduous-it took a while to install and drilling holes in your top causes some anxiety but I am happy with the end product. I also looked at the gobi racks and really liked them but went the other direction. Let me know if you have any questions about the Rhino-Rack I can help with.

Lucky I have a shop...Got the DeeZee coming and I've started getting the tubing together to fab up a Custom basket for the rack. This one is defiantly "Made IN America!" lol
I'll post pictures as I go...getting the elbows together...

I read that silicon does not hold up long term and it's recommended to use Butyl sealant if you can find it. I'm currently considering the pioneer platform with the backbone system to gain more storage place when the dog's are with us traveling. I'm not a big fan of the external rack systems as it makes it tough to remove the hard-top and there are few choices out there. Hopefully, you can fix the leak.

Does anyone know if the smaller length pioneer racks e.g. 60" will fit with the back-bone system? I drive a lot with the freedom panels off and would hate to lose some of the opening due to the extra overhang of the 72" pioneer rack.
Butyl is hard to find in Canada for whatever reason. But good to know it’s stronger !

I’m able to remove my freedom panels no problem at all. I can’t remember what size pioneer platform I went with.
I think it’s the 60.

Thanks. Any chance you can measure it? They recommend the 72 but have not determined if the 60" will work and esp with a Roof Top Tent.

Their website states it only fits the 4 door. As of now, for no drill option the exposed racks with the feet for weight distribution seems to be the best option for 2 doors. With that said, I've been waiting for over a month for mine, and it is still unclear when I will be receiving them....

Thanks! The powder coater has been closed since Friday for the holiday so it will go in tomorrow. Gonn'a get the rough black to match the rack and bumbers/rockrails. It's all TIG welded...most of it I had laying around the shop so I'll only have a couple hundred bucks tied up in it.

I added tabs for tie downs and went with mesh for the bottom to save weight, I can stand in the center and it supports me fine. Looking to go on a camp trip in another week and give a try...
