The payload numbers are all screwy with these things it seems. My JLURD is a soft top, plastic bumpers, cloth, no premium audio and my payload says 800lbs, 6100GVWR. But you have a hard top, and steel bumpers but have 850, 6100GVWR?

or being way over and having an significant accident with a insurance company that is looking for a way out.
This is the ONLY concern I have when loading a Jeep or truck.

I've never seen an axle or frame failure in my life from going over GVWR somewhat, and I've been around trucks and Jeeps for over 40 years.

I have, however, seen insurance companies play games when it's their turn to pay up.

I just had my JLURD lifted 6.5 inches and I took it to my local CAT scales to see what 37's, suspension upgrades, and spare tire carrier did to my weights . . . these are the ONLY changes since I posted my vehicle weight in the first post in this thread. Fuel tank was filled immediately before getting on the scale, and my DEF tank was 7/8 filled.

Front Axle: 2940 lb (+120)
Rear Axle: 2760 lb (+220)
Gross Weight: 5700 lbs (+340)

The individual wheel/tire weight increased from 80 lbs in stock configuration to 112 lbs with 17" Black Rhino wheels and 37" Toyo Open Country RT tires.

I have yet to add the Artec aluminum skid plates (coming soon), but those are only expected to have a net weight increase of 12 lbs.

My body weight is NOT included in the above numbers, so I am very close to the GVWR right now.

I will be back at the scales later today once I add my edc and trail/recovery gear back into my rig.

The final tally for the day, after putting all my recovery gear, tools and essentials back into my rig, the final weight is as follows:

Front Axel: 2900 lbs
Rear Axel: 3020 lbs
Gross Weight: 5920 lbs

Adding my body weight, I'm exactly at the GVWR! No passengers, coolers, camping gear, etc.

This is gonna be interesting once I start adding that stuff, AND pull a trailer! I can easily see 6800 lbs!

So how heavy is everyone else running 37s or larger?

I took my JLURD to the scales the day I bought it because I wanted a baseline as I was adding a lot of weight with mods.
With no one in it and a full tank of fuel it weighted in at 5050 lbs
Jeep is a SOT, with plastic bumpers with pretty much every option

I added the following
37" Generals
Method 17" wheels
Mopar 2" lift
RK adjustable track bar
Teraflex 2.2 steering damper
LOD Signature rock sliders
ADD front bumper
Smittybilt 10K winch
Smittybilt Gen2 rear bumper
Front and rear diff skid plates
Rear cargo rack
Rear tailgate table
Road Armor Fenders and inner panels

Re-weighted at 5710 again with no driver and full fuel
I thought the tag on my door says 6100 GVW

I'm trying to keep the weight off as well, but I'm already at GVWR once I'm inside the rig. I'm still planning on towing, and adding aluminum skid plates. Those, with at least one passenger will put me near 6800 lbs.

I just saw another thread where someone has over 7K lbs NOT including passengers.

Actually it does not seem like the diesel cares about weight but I am just trying to stay legal and I’m still not crazy about the brakes. Between the weight and 37’s I for sure noticed some loss of effectiveness.

I have no doubt the EcoDiesel is capable of handling heavier loads, though I am concerned about the chassis/suspension/brakes, especially when towing (at highway speed). I will be watching weight distribution as much as overall weight too. So far, my rig is pretty well balanced with the rear axel loaded just over 100 lbs more than the front (that's BMW territory!)

Overall, I'm just not comfortable with the idea of running more than 15% heavier than the GVWR . . . at least until I get more experience driving it in various conditions to get a feel for what the hazards might be.

So here is what I don’t get on tow ratings. A Honda Pilot AWD has a 5000lbs tow rating and we all know the Wrangler is 3500lbs.
so when you compare the vehicles and I’ll use a Diesel Rubicon the following are the specs

Jeep has longer wheelbase
Honda has slightly wider track
Jeep has bigger front and rear brakes
Jeep is full frame
Honda is Unibody
Jeep has almost twice the engine torque
Jeep has better suspension

so when you look at just these key vehicle specs it makes no sense that the Honda can pull more. I just think Jeep does not want to certify the higher level Wrangler for higher tow capacity.
