Did some winter wheeling this weekend. Conditions were rough with several feet of snow on top of ice. We were in the woods—good winching trees were everywhere. Wheeler in front of me had a warn winch. I have a smittybilt, person behind me had a badlands

smittybilt performed flawlessly on a self recovery during a hill climb.

badlands was used twice for self recovery and worked perfectly

the warn (model unknown) stopped working trying to recover another vehicle. Issue unknown, but the winch was down the rest of the day.

those who did not have winches caused massive delays from getting stuck

I realize that my anecdotal evidence is meaningless. Simply one more example that even the best brands can fail, and having any winch is better than none at all

cheers and happy wheeling

My Smittybilt has performed well when needed. I do not try to get stuck as I had my share of that kind of “fun” decades ago?. ( to me the fun stopped and the work started when I’d get stuck-ymmv) I’ve helped others more than once though, and find it comforting to know I “can” self rescue if I need to.
