The rivets you drilled out are steel and marked below right? thanks.

Interesting enough, these were plastic when I originally installed the mudflaps. It appears they may have started to implement or use metal rivets instead with later models.

I assume it would be the same process in removing those in that you are just pushing out the center tab in order to remove the rivet.

Yeah all the ones which the flare extensions are bolted looks steel and it doesn't look like they pop out pushing on the middle. at least to me it looks like a permanent seal of some type. Drilling might be the only option.

Alright so after a closer look, my 392 also has the steel rivets. I decided to tackle this. It definitely takes more time and effort to remove the rivets, but is not impossible. My recommendation is to start with a small drill bit to drill out the center, then gradually keep increasing the bit size. Eventually the flat part of the rivet will provide the opportunity to remove. Take your time and it eventually will come out.

Once they are removed, the installation is a breeze. Hope that helps and provides confidence to proceed!

Thank you!! That's how I am planning to proceed! Also the rivets are facing outwards so it's easy to use the drill. I will get some photos on how it goes.

I installed the Weathertech mud flaps in my xtreme recon rubicon. The only modification that needs to be done is drill an extra hole on the mud flaps. By far the hardest part of the install is removing the metal factory rivets. They have to be drilled out and it works best if you use a large size bit so you can get the entire pin inside the rivet removed. I went ahead and bought some black replacement rivets that are like the factory ones.

Thanks for the write up. Which hole did you need to drill in the flap? The upper one appears to be off-set somewhat. Did you need to modify that hole (too)?

What's the source of your replacement rivets?

Thanks!

Any fear of damage to the fenders if you hit a rock or bottom out. They don’t seem like they would give much.
I have the Weather tec on my 2021 JLURD but haven’t been off road yet.

I guess you have to decide if it’s worth the risk. I haven’t heard at anybody damaging their fender from the mud flaps but I know without them my rear fenders are getting beaten up by rocks.

I went with the XL Rokblokz for my XR. I have the rock rails with step assist so I had to router out some extra material from the pre-cut opening. Happy with them so far.

I was aware of the RokBlokz flaps and do like the added ability to disconnect them, but honestly don't like the large logo that they have on each flap. I understand the intention to market as company, but went with Weathertech to maintain as close to the OEM look as possible.
Hopefully companies will begin to realize our Jeeps are not billboards. Like Co_Jeep, I have passed on perfectly usable products to avoid having my Jeep plastered with logos by unpaid sponsors.
