So on July 15th, three JLUR head for Moab from Michigan. It is the usual characters. Phil with his Stingray Grey JHLUR, He sleeps in the back of his Jeep, me in the White JLUR and Bill in the Punk'N JLUR plus my wife, Carla. She ended up doing most of the driving on the trails while I spotted. She wheeled the heck out of my Jeep. We left at 6 am. Starting shot from the driveway.

So after a 15 hour drive, we stop at our first boondocks camping site. We are all cheap bastards and free campsites are awesome. We stopped in Nebraska and camped by the river.

Sunset was nice at the site.

The next day we drove 14 hours, but gained two hours due to time zones..... We camped at Slickrock Campground on the north side of Moab. It was very close to town and many of the badge trails were near by. Plus they had a pool and we could plug in our campers for air conditioning. The pool and air conditioning made the cost of the campground worth it, but boy did they pack us in there.

Check the refection in the windows for the campground and the nice back drop over the top of the Jeep.

Our first day out on the trail, we earned the Jeep badge for Fins & Things and Hell's Revenge. Joining us was fellow forum member @mgroeger. We spent the next two days wheeling with him and his wife. They are super cool and them joining us enhanced our days on the trail.

Lining up for our first group shot.

and the story countinues........
We are getting closer to Hell's gate at this point and mgroeger lead us up to this overlook. Phil climb up on his Jeep to do a live feed to Instagram or maybe Facebook and I seized the opportunity to have Carla photo bomb his feed.

Walking back to mine and mgreoger Jeep, the view was simpley breattaking. I am in awe of how pretty our nation is.

Bill's Pumk'N hiding down in the brush.
1596376390849.png

My wife Carla. She did a lot of the driving as I spotted. Her ability behind the wheel was amazing. More to come about that. Notice the hitch is still in the bumper..... Well, the lock was froze up on it. More to come on that also.

If you watch Youtube..... You know where we are and whats coming up.
1596376646672.png

I would not try Hell's Gate with out an experienced spotter. We lucked out and a tour group was there. I Just watched him and made the climb. It would be very easy to have a very very bad day at this spot.

Well now I have to find the video...... more to come.

found it.

Alright, back to posting some pics as I work through this journey.
So with Fins & Things and Hell's Revenge done, the next day we moved on to do Gemini Bridges and Metal Masher. Saw some beautiful sights and few the drone some. @mgroeger came along on this trail run also.

This is our first stop. We are north of Moab on Gemini Bridges.

This would have been an easy spot to end upside down at. The picture does not do it justice.
1596459604607.png

On top of the Mesa with hyw 191 that runs south to Moab on the desert floor. It took about 4 to 5 hours to get to this spot.... with a lunch break thrown in. After all a fat guy has to eat.
1596459738018.png

Yea, we looked at the widowmaker...... fuck that. I have to drive this thing home.
1596459810867.png

This is heading down to the widowmaker from the top. The widomaker is a straight up 8 ft. climb. I will have to watch a video of someone climbing this as I am not sure it can be done with out winching.

Yes, I parked about a foot or so from about a 1000 ft. drop off. Good thing my Carla is fearless.
1596460584364.png

Should have sent the drone out farther. This only captured the first drop off.
1596460678330.png

We also got buzzed by a helicopter. It sneaked up on us and kind of freak us out as it passed. Very cool experience.

Day 2 completed. Poison Spider and other trails up next.

Metal Masher rocked!! I talked about the Widow Maker with another guy and he said the safe ting to do is connect your winch to the winch point but keep it slack. That way if things go south you are tethered to keep you from flipping.
That thing is no joke for sure :)

I've been waiting for this thread to start. It's like watching porn but with a Jeep instead of a drug-induced female with daddy issues. Can't wait to see the rest of the trip Ted.
