The only time I’ve seen something like this being used was during water fording. It’s a temporary use so that it creates a boundary wave effect like the hull of a boat would do and water doesn’t get into the engine compartment and the door seals too much. A lot of people use thick blankets or tarps on their radiator grill as well.

I think it mounts over the cowl at the base of the windshield.
Exactly.....increases the flow of air into the cabin. Their claim...……

I installed one of these on my 98 tj to keep pine needles and small pieces of leaves etc. from getting into the heater fan area. The tj had a resistor for the fan motor that would get hot enough to make the stuff smolder and possibly catch fire. The jl seems to have a fine mesh in the intake to keep stuff from getting in there.
