So I just got the JLU Rubicon and it rained hard here yesterday. I get in and when I am driving and slow down there are a few drops of water that will leak from the driver side roof - if I were to draw a straight line vertical above the inner door handle. It did it a few times and is just annoying. My old TJ would do this but I thought they would have solved this problem by now! I have the body color freedom hard top if that makes a difference.

I am not sure if the passenger side was doing the same but it didn't appear to be.

Is this still a known issue and is there any fix?

Oh the joys of wranglers!!

Seems most freedom panel leaks are the panel not seated properly so there is a small gap somewhere in the seal.

Take off, check to see if any seals creases, crushed, replace. Might take a couple of times per some other users. Getting the seals seated correctly has been an issue since T-tops in the 70s.

Leaks like that can be deceiving. It's highly likely that the leak is coming from the driver side A pillar. If reseating the freedom panels doesn't fix the issue, you should make an appointment with your dealer's leak specialist (most dealers have one).

And what will they do? Plug something up? What else is normally the issue?

Fix an incorrectly installed door seal. And, whatever else is necessary to fix all leaks. I had the door seal issue and an improperly sealed body seam under the driver side cowl. You want the entire vehicle check for leaks, not just the one area you visually can see. That's why you should make 1 attempt to reseat the freedom panels. I that doesn't work, you'll be chasing the issue forever if you don't head to the dealer.

I just took it off and didn't see anything that looks “unusual” - just a few foam pads that all seemed “normal” - but admittedly I'm nit sure what I'm looking for thats usual versus unusual...

Save yourself the headache and make an appointment for it to be looked at. I couldn't tell that my door seal wasn't installed correctly, and I would have never known to check the body seam under the cowl. Even if I did know about both, I wouldn't have known how to fix them.

Is it just plastic sealings that they would replace - no “body” work i assume?!

Argh!

No body work needed. In my case, the driver side door seal was fixed/reinstalled properly. And, the body seam under the cowl was sealed properly.

It's exactly what it sounds like, but it's not serious. Under the cowl cover, held in by the 2 screws, there is a seam where 2 body panels meet. If not sealed properly, they can cause water to leak into the interior. A tell tale sign is a wet carpet. Can happen on the driver side, passenger side or both.

It's not worth chasing a leak yourself. Your vehicle is new and covered by a warranty. Your dealer should handle this for you without issue.
