We went to the annual Winter 4x4 Jamboree last weekend, the Jeep I wanted to take was broken, so we ended up taking our Bone Stock 23 Rubicon XR. I was very nervous because of the Wet conditions, as well as tire size and clearance, but this thing absolutely ate it up. Sometimes even doing better than its larger counterparts. 2nd gear, 4 low, and lockers when you need them, and these things are unbelievable. Safe to say it is the most capable stock 4x4 in these types of conditions. I don't really have a reason to mod it now!

Here is theyoutube link with all the videos!

Very cool! An inspiration for all of us stock XR pilots! 👍

You definitely need to armor up if you haven't already if you're going to continue to off road it

I'm confident my Willys XR could do that as well. Was just up wheeling in the snow and it was easy getting around everything without even remotely trying. Even without the lockers. XRs are pretty underrated in stock form.

Are all those supposed to be videos? Only saw the one. What trail was it that was a 7? But yeah, the only time the XR really struggles is heavy articulation to maintain traction. Very capable.

Try using Chrome/different browser to see all the videos. I had the same issue of only seeing the first one with Firefox. I could hear the other two, but it wasn't until I switched over to Chrome that they all showed and could be viewed.

A stock rubicon XR is extremely capable.

And despite wanting to there is little reason to mod it for more "capability" Unless you go very big.

I'm talking at least a 3 inch lift and 38's to see an appreciable difference two where spending those many thousands are worth it.

the XR package is a huge bang for the buck coming from the factory done.

And my opinion is that 35's are the best all around highway, off road tire that you still almost crap yourself trying to rotate but it's doable.

Agreed.

That being said, assuming you have the XR package, you'll probably see more benefit out of control arms/track bars than you would with larger tires.

What about your XR do you think made all the difference. The XR adds what over the "stock" Rubicon?
