At the end of the day, it's still a Chrysler, so I assume I'll get very strange problems. I think a warranty is worth it.

Don’t waste your money. Too much for it and time wasted if you try and use it.

Thx. Interesting enough, it doesn’t look like your pay dramatically more by waiting until your factory warranty is up to purchase. ie, instead of a 2020 I put in a 2017 and priced out a 8 year. Not a lot more than pre paying now.
For a MaxCare plan it’s a $150 surcharge for over 1 year (from in service date) or 12,000 miles

Also keep in mind FCA seems to raise their prices 1-2 times a year.

I never bought an extended plan until my 2012 Lincoln MKS eco boost. I figured I would pay the 1400 for it when I purchased it used. I’m glad I did. It paid for the 14k engine replacement at 79k miles. Hell I only paid 16k cash for it a few years ago. So I would say if it gives you some piece of mind, go for it.

I’d recommend pricing the FCA vs other warranties out there. I have a Route66 warranty on my BMW and am really impressed with the coverage and their customer service approach.
I have been looking at Rt 66 too. The way I read it coverage on infotainment is questionable and lots of things run through there. And the air suspension on the Grand Cherokees is excluded as well

The price of the warranty is negotiable....take whatever you can find online and go talk to the finance manager at your local dealer - they will likely bite.

As one poster alluded to, the warranty is a nice security blanket for future problems, although the warranties on Jeeps (and I imagine any FCA product) are high in comparison to other manufacturers. I've had extended warranties on Hondas and Toyotas and they have always paid for themselves in the long-run. For comparison, 8yr/125k warranty on a 2018 Honda Pilot was $1100 (no deductible), same thing on a JL was $2400 ($100 deductible) - negotiated down from their starting $3k offer.

The extended warranty provider makes money on the warranties or they wouldn’t exist.

I totally bought one with my 2020. But I got mine for 100k mi, and I didn’t pay that much. They are negotiable just like the price of the car.

I’m curious why no one is mentioning the 84mo unlimited mileage bumper to bumper warranty through FCA? That’s what I purchased somewhere around the $2400 range. I personally want to be covered If I’m making a payment, so I took one that would cover me past my loan length.

First time Jeep Owner.... looks like 2k for the 8 year 85k mile bumper to bumper warranty. Also another $495 to have the Mopar lift covered, which seems weird considering it’s a Mopar part... in the past I’ve had Toyota’s and always skipped the extended warranty, wish they still had the lifetime warranty available... with my luck I’ll spend $2,500 and the Jeep will be good till 90k miles... advice? I’ve got the 4CYL turbo which also makes me nervous..
$2000 for a 85k warranty is pretty high especially for a manufacturer warranty. I work for a Nissan dealership and typically cost on a manufacturer warranty is roughly $500 bucks less than a aftermarket one. 8yr/85k warranty, dealer cost will most likely be around $1200. Mopar lift is probably an extra $100-$200. It's really gonna depend on if the finance manager that you're working with needs the gross or the warranty penetration numbers for their month to get the best deal on them. Some finance departments won't even sell you a warranty if they don't make a decent chunk off you.

What is this about a surcharge to cover the mopar lift? that wasn't the case in January this year I don't think. I know the maxcare warranty says they will cancel it entirely if you do a lift or bigger tires, etc. People have talked here about this in fact happening, but most folks squeeze by with their local dealer and don't get cancelled. BUT IF MOPAR IS NOW MAKING THIS EXTRA $495 PROFIT, THEN THEY WILL LIKELY MAKE THE DEALERS REPORT THE LIFT AND WILL CANCEL THE WARRANTY CONTRACT UNLESS YOU PAID THE EXTRA $495.
Does anyone know more about this extra $495?

Looks like effective for new plans after 4/2/19 it’s separate coverage.

wow, great info, thanks. So, what does that mean for those of us pre 4/2019 who bought the extended warranty and want a mopar lift? anyone seen an answer on this post 4/2019?
If you purchased a plan pre 4/3/2019, then the MaxCare fine print said it was covered upto a maximum two inch lift.

But even with that, it ultimately comes down to if the dealer. Some dealers just won’t touch warranty work with any lift.

So you bought it because you were purchasing the 1st year of a New model run, but you don’t think it’s worth it for others depending on their risk tolerance. So you’re a cautious risk taker.

What I believe, or dare I say even know, is that the warranty *may* not be worth it for others depending on the worth of the policy to them, which ties into things like a potential insurance purchaser's disposable income and aversion to risk, and future unknown outcomes.

Maybe that's exactly what you meant. : - )

We all value things differently. It's why we trade, and it's why trade is...."good." If I buy a soda off of you for a $1, by definition you value it less than that, and me more; we are both better off having traded.

Like habitual casino betting by a non-card shark, over the long run and across the large pool of guests, such acts, like insurance, are not worth it.

But for the individual who buys a lemon of a vehicle or pulls the slot machine and it, first time, comes up 3 of a kind, pays big (and the lucky gambler walks away with their winnings,) such ventures can, after the fact, be huge windfalls. Stay too long at the casino, or insure enough rigs under the same policy and the benefits of doing so diminish. Large companies often self-insure for this very reason.

Competitively priced insurance is neither good nor bad. Like the casino it makes the insurance company money across all policy holders and events, paying out $ to those with bad vehicles from the vast majority's premiums and few problems, pocketing the difference as profit.

This is how insurance works, and can simply be financially not worth it on a statistical large scale to the policy holder, while personally worth to them it all at the same time.
