Waiting for diesel?

It’s been a good while since my TJ but I could swear 37s were at the sweet spot on 5.13s

It all depends on the transmission. What works for the TJ doesn't work with the gearing on the JK's tranny. I drove my 2012 JK on 35's for 5 years and it was great. The 5 speed auto gearing makes it work. 5.13's in the JL would likely make it so that you never touch 1st or 2nd. On my JK 4.88's are about perfect gearing for 37's. They are actually a bit too low for 35's. I'm guessing it is going to be even more so with the JL and it's 8 speed.

5.13s would work also... I’m not into mileage. Going to have to wait till the first set of tires need replaced before I go up with a lift, gears and tire though...

That’s why I’m getting a 6-speed. 6th gear is .72 and in my TJ 5th gear was .78... if 5.13’s fit in the new axles on the JL then it would push the RPM’s up 200 at 65mph. 4.88 would push the RPM’s up about 85 at 65 mph. Either way both gear sets would change the RPM for the better but bring the mpgs down. With 37” tires...

Buying a manual JL or JK is about the most ridiculous thing you can do. The NAG 1 in the JK gave the ability to hold a gear even through redline in the manual shift mode. This means it essentially becomes a 5 spd manual. I am assuming the 8 spd will do the same thing. Honestly the 3.6 was a heck of an upgrade over the 3.8 but the WA580 was the real star in the JK. The 8 spd will be that for the JL. Only thing that makes sense to buy a manual in is a pure drivers car like a Miata or some little roadster or coupe.

I just like having something to do while driving... All my Wranglers have been manual transmissions, my 04 Liberty is also a manual. My father in-law has had 2 automatics in both his TJ and JK. I’ve driven both and I just prefer the connection with the vehicle and what needs to happen to make it move. Plus I don’t need to get an alarm on it... the manual transmission is a theft prevention device in itself, lol... maybe about 25% of people know how to drive a manual... lol

I considered waiting... but then didn't haha. I do love the diesels, I had a VW Passat TDI that I bought from my Mother when she had hip surgery and discovered that she could not get in and out, and I ended up really liking that even though the performance was just OK. But the mileage was AMAZING, I routinely got over 800 miles on a tank, boy I miss that. But I don't think the Wrangler is going to see anything close to the 33 given the aerodynamics, tires, etc. Once the delay got stretched out, I figured I'd get the 3.6 now, and then 18 months from now when the diesels are widely available I can always trade if I want to. If my JL holds its value like my 17 Recon I traded on JL, then I'd trade if I drove the diesel and fell in love with it.

Keep in mind, that chart refers to actual tire size, not advertised size. BFG KO2 37s are actually 35.5~inches tall. So in that instance 4.88s would put you right between green and blue, which is a nice place to be.

Yes, I'm waiting on the diesel. I love my JK (only 17k on it) and don't mind waiting. I may even wait until 2020 for long term reviews.

I’ll be waiting, as hard as it will be. I’d guess that if they deliver mid 20’s combined MPG, they will be going over MSRP initially.

This will arguably be the best Wrangler ever. Historically wranglers have always been less practical because of fuel economy and people/luggage capacity. Here comes a Wrangler with great torque, decent fuel economy, 4-doors (optionally), a turbo (for us high altitude drivers), some towing/headwind capability, and the potential to easily add 50+HP/extra MPG with tunes/deletes?? Sign me up! This is a Jeep I’d be happy with as a daily driver!

I will be trading in my turbocharged TJ for this marvelous beast.

It was just announced that the new Jeep Wrangler Eco Diesel engines will not be available till the 2019 is it worth waiting? Also how much will this engine most likely cost?

I am DEFinitely waiting for the Eco. JLURDiesel. I love the Pentastar, but having the extended range and torque, I know it is going to be worth it. And the price of fuel is more stable, so Im getting one and keeping it till Kingdom come. WOOHOO!!!

The real question here is how long are you willing to hold out for the diesel? Lots of speculation about availability and no hard dates from FCA. I am really interested in the diesel but am still waiting for some legitimate information regarding availability.

I went to a local dealership and spoke with a manager. He stated that production was to start Aug 19th. this year. I believe there are a few scouts reading the junk we write and paying attention, because its going to be popular. Very popular. 260 hp and 442 ft.lb torque is something to be reckoned with. Like I stated previously, I'm getting mine and keeping it till Kingdom come...
