I have this 3.0L in my Ram 1500 and my wife has it in her Grand Cherokee. An amazing engine and married PERFECTLY to the 8-speed trans.

The fact that major vehicle manufacturers are ditching diesels, Fiat/Chrysler included, might mean this production run might not get off the ground. Would it be worth keeping for the specialized niche market of Jeeps ? The emissions scandals have pretty much proven that everything you like about the Diesel, torque, fuel economy, can't be achieved with the future emissions requirements, here, and in Europe.

The Ram ecodiesel is already available at dealerships. So is the GC. Like I stated before, there is a bunch of Trolls reading our junk to see what everybody wants. The F150 diesel is also coming out real soon. And the Silverado as well. I am salivating like the Pavlov dogs at the thought of a diesel rubicon...

I'm also waiting on the Diesel. I think its going to pair up with the 8 speed auto very nicely. The longer I have to wait the closer I am to paying in cash. This will also give time for working out the first run bugs but who's to say that the diesel won't have its own set of issues. Even if the run on the 3.0 ecodiesel is short lived I think it will be a niche Wrangler that will retain lots of retail value. I drive very few miles but like the idea of slightly higher gas miles, smoother towing and more off road torque for the few times when I use it that way. I'll be the guy that ends up with a 10 year old Jeep Rubicon in excellent condition and less than 50k miles with a diesel and all the bells and whistles. A diamond in the rough. lol.

Yes, emoody. the combo to the 8 spd and the 442lbft of torque its going to work amazingly. As a former owner of a Ram 1500 with the 8 spd, I know first hand what the transmission is capable of. The skeptics are going to say this, that and the other. But FCA ain't taking chances with this combo. And then we will be enjoying the great US of A with the best vehicle on the face of the planet. By then, the diamond is going to be polished to an incredible brilliance...JLURDiesel...

I went to a local dealership and spoke with a manager. He stated that production was to start Aug 19th. this year. I believe there are a few scouts reading the junk we write and paying attention, because its going to be popular. Very popular. 260 hp and 442 ft.lb torque is something to be reckoned with. Like I stated previously, I'm getting mine and keeping it till Kingdom come...
What dealership did you ask? I was at Napletons in Kissimmee last week and they said they had been told it could be December 2019, I was willing to wait for the diesel but not sure I could wait that long, hopefully that was bad info.

Napletons is at the bottom of the totem pole. I used to be a client there, but Airport Jeep in Orlando is the place to go. They have the best price and selection. Also Lakeland Jeep is the same dealer. I went there some time ago and one of the mgrs stated Aug 19th for the start of the diesels. Maybe he was feeding me some bum dope...but I am waiting. Its going to be worth every minute.

I have a '14 Ram EcoDiesel and the wife drives a '16 EcoDiesel Grand Cherokee. My Ram is likely one of the best vehicles I have EVER owned. 67K miles on it - more than 1/2 of that towing and I have never had any problem with it.

BUT, the future of ED's is FAR from certain. There is NO 2018 Ram ED, nor is there either a 2017 or 2018 ED available in the GC anymore. I think FCA is VERY EPA gun shy at the moment!

Another reason to wait is the availability of diesel during hurricanes here in Florida. During Irma last year, I filled up the night before the event. Next day, gas was gone but diesel was in abundance. We shall see what the Goons at FCA are going to do. I'm a believer, so again I will wait...

I would have waited for the diesel if I knew the towing rating would go up. I would not be suprised if it does and FCA held it back so I would buy now. That will be OK.

This is only for CARS. Trucks and SUV's are not applicable. Ford and Chevy are both adding V6 diesels to their 1/2 tons.

They announced at the JL launch that the EcoDiesel will be available MY19. Also Ram announced at Detroit when unveiling the new 2019 1500 that it will be available with the EcoDiesel in fall. Basically they are getting final approval from the EPA on the updated Gen 2 and making sure there are no software issues like on the Gen 1s that got them in trouble.

Knowing that the EPA is being cleansed from those green goblins from the last administration, and knowing that we will become energy independent in the near future, I am waiting for the diesel. This spring, F150 diesel and Silverado diesel will be available. Do you really think FCA is going to be left behind? I think not. Don't get me wrong, I love the Pentastar engine, but I know diesel is the better choice for those of us who enjoy Ocala National Forest and going to Daytona Beach during Jeep Beach and so on. I am not a die hard rock crawler, but I am going out west when my wife retires next year and looking forward to do Moab and the namesake, the old Rubicon trail, God Almighty willing. Like I said, I am waiting for the diesel...

I went test driving JL’s this weekend. My TJ has been moth balled for the last 8 years.

The manual JL (V6) Rubicon felt so gutless that I decided to wait for the diesel. Then I drove an 8 speed and it felt normal. The second dealer confirmed this and said the 8-speed is a different animal. Wonder if the 6spd is detuned for mileage?

I REALLY want to wait for the diesel but the JL is everything I’ve ever wanted. We’ll see how long I can last!!

Do you guys think we will be able to chip it and do some deletes to get decent horsepower? Usually diesels are very mod friendly and you can get an extra 100HP with nothing more than a chip.
