TFL uploaded a 2021 Wrangler buyers guide video this morning.

I don’t agree with every one of Tommy’s recommendations, but he does a good job simplifying the maze of navigating 13 trims, 2 body types, 6 powertrains, 2 transmissions, 2 tops, a myriad of packages and stand alone options in building a JL online.

I agree with him that Wrangler’s greatest overall value resides somewhere between Sport S and Willys.

Enjoy.

He quick talks through the powertrains, recommends the v6 with the auto which also includes the bsg system. That’s $3k above the base v6 manual and $1500 above the 2.0t with the auto. He alluded to the issues they had with their 2.0t as part of the reasoning for this recommendation, but the issues they had were directly bsg related and therefore more likely on the more expensive v6 he recommended. He admits that the ecodiesel is a great choice, but not worth $6k. It’s only $3k more than the configuration he recommends. The idea that you should ignore the 4xe option because it’s expensive is also misleading, factor in the $7,500 federal tax credit and it is likely cheaper out the door than a similarly equipped gas or diesel option. We like to play on tougher trails, and went to 37’s after the first year, so the rubicon was the best value for us. I agree with a lot of his points, but found his drivetrain discussion misleading and/or just plain false.

It's a pleasant little blog video, but hardly a Buyer's Guide. More like an editorial. His opinions may have some value for an interested consumer, but there's too much recurring viewpoint for objectivity to have any chance here.

It must be said that his mispronunciation of "Willys" may have cost him a bit of credibility; doubly so when observing his real enthusiasm for that particular trim.

HIs opinions have a lot of value if they validate an opinion that you already have. ;)

he also made it sound like you'd keep the dual top group installed all the time which is asinine. He might be a car enthausiast but does not offroad much so it would be hard to take his opinion on what jeep is best for ones needs.

Confirmation bias impedes problem solving. ;)
