Utilizing factory aux switchs

So I bought a new grill that everyone told me was really cool and they all were jealous.

It came with a light bar and I have a question about wiring it directly to factory aux switch #4 (I got a 2021 rubicon) which is the purple wire.

The lightbar didn't come with a wiring harness, just 2 leads a red and black.

So I can just run the red wire directly to the purple wire and connect them with a wire connector, crimp it, then that's it? Ground out the black wire and then it's done and should work when I push aux 4?

Yes, that is how you would do it. Red is power, black is ground.

If you want the grill lights to be fuse protected at a lower amp rating then Aux 4 is fused at, then include an inline fuse on the red with the fuse you want to use.

Here is a good grounding point. You can undo this bolt without worrying about the bolt snapping off...

Ooooh okay see I just wanted to make sure before I messed something up.

I can't imagine this lightbar is more than 15 amps, I feel like I will not need that inline fuse

(especially bc I have absolutely no idea what that means and that would require even more research n I gotta get this installed today lol)

You should be aok without an inline fuse with that offering... LED lights have little draw.

I mentioned an inline fuse as you are not the only one that will read my post.... and just maybe you will be using other Aux wires in the future and need to use an inline fuse possibly.

You may want to reconsider what switch you're using if you don't know how many amps the bar is going to pull. Since you didn't say what bar you are using, we don't know how many amps it's going to pull. See the diagram that Rhinebeck posted above. Switch #4 is rated at 15 amps. Some lightbars pull 20amps or even more. If you don't know and want to be safe, use switch #1 or #2, since they are rated at 40 amps. I put my KC's on switch #1.

Yeah the lightbar came included in the grill, like it's already in the grill I just have to wire it up. It didn't say on the website how much amps it is I just looked.

But ....... The OP is installing an angry grill with a bunch build in, very little LED lights on it. Those will undoubtedly not draw more then 15amp.

That's what I was hoping too. That I can just hook it to aux 4 15 amp switch n be done with it.

I was reading something though, about like when u turn something on it doubles the amp draw momentarily ? So like say this led bar is 12 amps, but when I hit the switch it will draw 24 amp for a second then go down to 12? Is this an issue or even a thing?

Ah, I didn’t look at his other post. You’re right, they probably don’t pull much.

Don't overthink it. 8-)

No, does not double as you mention, but draw is a tad more when first powering up.

IF, again if 15 amp is not sufficient (15 amp is more then likely aok) the most you will/can do is to blow the associated 15 amp fuse which is easy and inexpensive to replace. And if your blow that 15 fuse, use Aux 3 or 4. Again, unlikely you blow the 15 amp fuse on the Aux you plan to use.

Do NOT place a higher amp fuse in place of the 15 amp fuse on that Aux line.

Get out there and do the install... You could have been done with the install already..

Installation is complete I love it. Lightbar works at the push of a button and got wires all nice and neat.

Only problem I had was the weatherstripping tape was no good so I had to run to the store n get more

Looks great! Glad you got-er done!

Now consider installing @Diode Dynamics , smoked or clear front side markers to add to the look / to enhance the look upfront. The Diode Dynamics are inexpensive, easy to install and not problematic..

I am personally not a fan of the “angry grills” ?, However this one looks pretty good. Really like the way they integrated the light bar. Well done ??
