Urgent - Check your oil levels. Did the Jeep dealer put in 6 or 5 quarts of oil in your JL?

Just ask @cosine he knows!
Fuzzy measuring Oil Changes. First JL oil change. Asked Service Tech " how much oil does my Wrangler take"? Without hesitation in her "I'm the expert here" voice she barked "all JLs take 6 qts." I said, hmm "I believe the manual says 5". Nope 6, all 3.6Ls take 6. I asked her to please check, as she was flipping thru the manual on her tablet she came to the fluids page quickly, read it, flipped to another page and said "Oh, 3.6L take 5 quarts, 6 quarts is if your using 10W20." ARE YOU KIDDING ME!. I fully expect my JL it will have 6 qts. When will this madness ever end!. Definitely 5 stars on the "How'd We Do? feedback form.
Sounds like this madness will never end, glad I'm not participating in ANY of this :)

First oil change yesterday for me. Remind them at arrival it takes 5 qts. They finish and i notice the Invoice says 6 qts. I question them...They say the tech only puts in what’s called for but probably just billed for 6qts, makes no sense I know, so I check it. Shows high and they say it’s Bc it was just changed. This morning still high.

@JeepCares ...... if there is a God in Heaven, could your please convince the company that you work for to fix this problem with your dealers? It’s been 3 years and they reportedly can’t get it correct. This matter needs FCA attention. You folks are the eyes and ears of Jeep for lots of issues. This is a simple fix and FCA needs to send out MULTIPLE and BIG announcements to all dealers, 5 times a day, every day for 52 weeks if necessary to get this simple issue solved. Then, if that doesn’t work, FCA needs to stop sending vehicles to that dealership or, better yet, Publish a list of dealers with “known inability to follow warranty service guidelines.” That list will make these shitty dealers wake up.

They put 6 qt on my latest oil change but told me that's how they have to bill it. I checked and it's perfect so they did it right.

However, keep in mind my 4 services went like this.

billed 6 qts - got 6 qts
billed 6qts - got 6 gts
billed 5qts - got 6 qts
billed 6qts - got 5qts

so just have to check it.

I guess the problem goes higher up than the oil change techs. Jeep corporation knows it takes 5 yet is allowing their Jeep dealers to bill them for 6. No checks and balances.

i got mine done Friday the 20th and it said 5 and i got 5. I asked them do they use the single bottles or an oil dispensers they told me since the oil dispensers are always off they switched back to using single quart bottles that way they know how much is going in.

My wife took ours in yesterday.
Billing says 5 quarts 0W20.

WAY overfilled when I checked last night on a warm engine.
Still way over this AM when stone cold (I would assume it should read lower).
I wonder if they even used the correct oil too as the JK calls for 5W20 vs the JL's 0W20

I am bringing it back in after work.

And yea, yea, I know I should just change it myself.

The shorter dipstick recall will be in the mail soon, that will solve all these overfill problems!

Nope, the real fix is still coming. The elimination of the dipstick, like the transmission.
Then the problem is solved ! Idiot proof.

I know this is in jest, but I wonder if there is an issue.

I brought mine back yesterday.
When I first showed up they checked it right away and it showed full, but not over filled.
They asked how I checked it, and I explained it followed the manual and let it sit for about 5 minutes and again on a full cold engine.
We let it sit and checked again.
They agreed that it did show over filled on the dipstick, up the wire rope above the metal "bullet" looking thing after sitting for about 5 mins.

The Tech that did the change was very adamant that he only put 5 quarts in.
He was well versed in that the JL was different than the previous years and also said different than some of the other current models with the 3.6L.
He noted that the synthetic 0W20 was not a bulk oil and he got and poured individual bottles in.
He also noted the process called out for a minimum of 5 mins of draining after the filter & cap were loosened.

They did drain about 1/2 quart and asked that I watch it as they dont know why it would show overfilled.
It now shows right at the very top of the full mark on the bullet.

Had my first oil change and tire rotation from the Jeep Wave freebie program yesterday at 9300 mi. Changed myself at 2500 and 5300 miles prior. Also had the V41 sway-bar recall done. I requested 5 qts upon arrival. At completion the statement said 6 qts. I asked why they put 6 instead of 5 qts in. Young pup said "as long as it's in the right range, it's OK". Weasel words to me. He had no clue. I took it home and let it sit for 30 mins and checked the oil. The oil was over the top of the indicator range but I couldn't convince myself it was really over filled. I'll continue to do my own changes in between the freebies for peace of mind. The oil disposal, tire rotation labor, and sway bar install (no issues with death wobble prior) was worth the trip in.

Whenever I get a new vehicle (since I do all my own oil changes) the first oil change I do I will put in whatever the owners manual says it requires then will measure at the dipstick the following morning after it's set overnight and make a note in the manual where the oil level is.
I know it's overkill but I've done it for the last 10 or so vehicles, just for my own piece of mind.
FWIW adding a new 5 qt jug after a 30 minute drain (on full level garage floor) resulted in the oil right at the top of the flat recessed section of the dipstick when I checked it the next morning. So at least w/ my JL, the full 5qt mark is right where it should be :)

HELP! I need some advice. I brought my 2019 JL Rubicon back to Desert 215 Jeep in Las Vegas in for it's first oil change at 4200 miles. I stressed very clearly to the service advisor that it only takes 5 quarts. He treated me as if I was stupid and "we know". I pick up the Jeep the jeep and sure the @#$*, the invoice shows 6 quarts. I walk into the service managers office and I show him the paperwork. He has a mechanic double check and verifies that there's only 5 quarts. its 3 days later, I'm driving to work and I look back and the jeep is laying down a heavy smoke trail. I am damn lucky as I'm only 2 miles from the dealer. I pull into the service bay and the jeep is leaking oil. Obviously, they over-filled it. Here's where I need advice -- what are my options? How bad could this have damaged my Jeep? They are saying its just over-fill - that BS in my mind. How can I find out who the district manager of the dealership is? I'm located in Las Vegas - and I very much appreciate anyone's help.

Hi Randy,
We regret to hear about your experience. We would be happy to have this documented and connect you with a Case Specialist to work alongside your dealer. If this is something you would be interested in, please send us a private message.
