Hello Guys,

My JLUR is an export model and comes with 255/75-17 Standard.

I upgraded to 285/70-17 and it clears the bumper fine just that there is a rubber spacer at the bottom that interferes so that the tire goes all the way in and also the brake light assembly, should I force everything and install the wheel hoping the brake light and rubber spacer “Give”?

Thanks
JC

Does the center brake lamp assembly unscrew then slide up so you can adjust upwards for larger tires?

there is a rubber spacer at the bottom
You want the tire resting against those bump stops (what you have circled in your picture). It prevents the tire from rattling. If it doesn't, you can buy extended stops or make extensions (do a search).

also the brake light assembly
You need to raise the 3rd brake light. Remove the 2 screws on each side that hold the legs to the 3rd brake light. You can see two of the screws in your 2nd picture. Raise up the 3rd brake light assembly once all 4 screws are removed. It may take a bit of force/jiggling to get the assembly to move. You will only need 2 screws once the assembly is raised.

Thanks,

The problem is the bump stop is too long, can it be cut?

Doesn't look too long in your last pic.

Regardless, yes it can be cut. I would recommend buying a new set to cut and keep the originals.

Don't cut the bump stop, it's supposed to be snug against the tire, even compressed a bit.

Yes, the more compressed the bump stops are, the better. Having the tire firmly compressing these bump stops will keep the tire from bouncing, moving, etc. This is the key to having a long and happy tailgate hinge life.

So its no problem if the brake light assembly and bump stop are pushed back a bunch?

Bump stop is OK.

3rd brake light assembly should be pushed back to the point where it prevents the rear wiper from working. I suggest you raise it and see if that helps.

Ultimately, if you are not comfortable with the way everything fits you may need a relocation bracket.

Just looked at another Rubi that had the 285 tire stock, clearances are perfect and the light bar assembly does not even touch the tire... what can I change to get the same fitment? Are there different part numbers for the tailgatate tire rack?

I have a JLR export version and just changed my tires from the 255/75R17 to 285/70R17 and I had none of the problems you are experiencing. The size difference between the two sizes is about 0.6 of an inch.

what brand of tire did you fit?

I had this problem when I put Rubi take-off's on my Sahara. My low tech approach was putting three washers on each lug of the spare holder to give some additional gap for the Rubi tire. It still squishes the bump stops but not as badly and the tire is not rubbing against the third light assembly.

Your reverse camera cover still fit in its place?
