I am having the SAME PROBLEM that you are having! I can't get Sirius to work and assumed I plugged it in wrong as well! What happens when you press the SXM button on the radio? On mine, it does nothing but making the sound to acknowledge that I have pushed on it. How did you hook yours up? You can see my other thread for pictures of how I hooked mine up. I tried everything, pulling the battery cables, pulling power to the radio, etc....

Did you get your navigation working?

Unfortunately, I think you're having this issue because you bought used which is tied to another's VIN. I have had no issues at all with my 8.4 upgrades because I purchased new.
Did you have issues at with the navigation? My Sport has Sirius from the factory, so I am thinking that all I need is the unit and bezel.

I have a feeling I know the answer to this but, does it come with the off-road pages?

Thanks for your help!

You only need the radio and bezel, correct. I am not sure about the off road pages, my nav works fine but I never use it because CarPlay and Waze are better.

A question for you guys. Currently I have most basic 5'' without sat radio. I'm getting 8.4'' in a couple of days. Do I need to install any antennas for GPS and other functions?

I have read the post concerning the radio upgrade by buying a used radio that has already been branded by the VIN of a different Jeep, those seem to be quite serious. I read one post that the radio came from a Jeep that was still on the dealer lot, not quite sure how that could happen.
What I don't quite understand why Jeep will not seal a brand new unit that has not been branded and that could be branded with the VIN of the Jeep the unit would be newly installed in.
I hope at some point this can be resolved, I have owned my new 2019 less then a month, and only found out about the radio issues after I purchased. I should have done more research on the radio issue. I had specific needs and wants for the new Jeep, and the one I bought fits, with the exception of the radio. I did not want to wait to order.

There seems to be a real need/want to upgrade the 5" radio.

I am one of those persons.

I like yourself found out about the radio issues of upgrading the radio AFTER I bought my certified preowned. I asked about upgrading the unit as I had an 8.4” in my Dodge Charger that I traded in for this Jeep and was told it’s expensive but yes. There are a lot of things I was told in the sales process that I would be able to upgrade like the fender lights UH not true again. I’ve contacted @JeepCares only to be given the “you’ll have to contact the dealer” answer or sorry that’s not possible.

so Frustrated @JeepCares cause no one wants to help the customer find a solution they only want to say “it’s not possible” or because it did not come from the factory it will void the warranty if you install an 8.4” that was purchased as a take out or from used parts dealer aka junk yard.

ive has issues with my 7” screen trying to use an iPod via USB to play music. It would not auto connect. Yes there is a Uconnect setting for auto connecting a connected USB device. I had to unplug and plug it back in to get it to work - but it worked . Also had volume control issues too so I took it to the dealership. They did a software/firmware update. Before I left the dealership I checked to see if it was working - it was worse. Now the shuffle /repeat song were not selectable. Additionally my album art was not displaying. They bricked my iPod! How do I know? Because I can plug my iPhone in and it works okay. Called Uconnect they said sorry we don’t support iPod. Well newsflash for Uconnect- the owners manual says plug a trusted media source into the USB. Not just an iPhone! So who wants to pay to replace my $299 iPod @JeepCares that the dealership bricked?

We understand that not all features of the UAQ 8.4” unit will work on a Sport model as you need an LTE antenna for OTA updates or your need the auto dim mirror for feature.

most of us are okay with not having those features. We just want a premium system, bigger screen and NAV. Is that to much to ask for @JeepCares?

All that I have read about other users purchasing a unit from infotainment.com say that the units will work aside from the aforementioned items. But they could not get updates because the dealer won’t assign the 8.4” sales code to the VIN.

I wish I could find a way to start a petition.

Jeep/FCA you got our $$$$ when we purchased your Jeep. It’s a lifestyle we enjoy so why can’t you provide us with a means of a little modern convenience that we are willing to pay for???

Rant over...

I’ll wait for @JeepCares reply.

I received the following response from a popular Mopar parts wholesaler asking if the 8.4 Radio is available to order

“Mopar shows them available with no restriction on ordering. So as far as I can see, there isn't an issue ordering it. However, once ordered, that can change.”

So I purchased an 8.4 from an eBay seller. Had to send it back as the backup camera was a green screen and the USB 2 in center console would not recognize CarPlay. All the other features worked other than Uconnect specific which requires a subscription only available for factory installed units. I even had footwell lighting to work on my Sport S! oh I also had a setting for unlocking just the driver door with 1 push on FOB or all doors with 2 pushes on FOB - that worked too!

NOW - I was so impressed with the 8.4" (as I had one on my Charger that I traded for the Jeep) I went ahead and ordered a new unit for a wholesaler on this site that assured me they can be purchased.

I'm confident a NEW 8.4" unit will work as @diesel1218 and @TexaClone say they had success with their NEW units too.

I also was communicating with a CDJR technician / Jeep specialist on Facebook Jeep Wrangler JL page who has experience swapping our 5"& 7" units for the 8.4" in Jeep JL's. Says he's done several and said the units are self learning. He also said infotainment.com is not capable to "programming" your VIN and said the dealer themselves has no way of "programming" the radio other than applying software/firmware updates. Marketing gimmick I suppose.

I went from the 5" to the 8.4" I bought from a forum member here. I also bought a sat/nav antenna since I did not have Sirius on my 5". It was an easy swap and install. It was fully loaded with all kinds of options I do not have like dual zone climate control, heated seats, and auto mirrors, but it only took one reboot for it to recognize that and eliminate options I don't have. Everything works great except for things that require data/LTE services like the app store and OTA updates. Fortunately it has the latest update so I don't need to do that yet. I still do not have a Sirius subscription so I can't speak to that. Does anyone know how to update the factory Nav? I'll probably only use it for emergencies but it is so outdated it doesn't even show the street my house is on.

I had a similar experience with one I just got from a forum member. I went from 7" to 8.4" and similar to you, mine took a few Jeep stop/start cycles and everything adjusted. At first mine wouldn't recognize the camera, aux switches, Sirius, heated seats/wheel, and auto temp controls. Left it overnight and this morning everything (minus the data/LTE stuff) is there and working.

The HD radio was a nice surprise. The bigger screen is much better than the 7" that' it's almost shocking they are 1.4" apart. Otherwise this is an easy swap. If it's out of another vehicle you need the 4 digit security code and the bezel. The swap is very easy.

Going from the 7" to 8.4" the only issue I found is USB2 (center console) won't do carplay but it will charge. This is a non-issue for me as I use USB1 on the media hub on the dash but just want to point it out.

Aux switches, auto temp controls, heated seats/steering, Sirius, Navigation all work without issue. The LTE/WiFi functions don't work but I knew they wouldn't as I don't have those antennas hooked up.

Ditto for me. The only other issue I have is with ORP the GPS coordinates show ——. However if the elevationis above 90’ the GPS coordinates will show. I live in FL close to the Gulf where my elevation is around 10’ but if I go across the Sunshine Skyway bridge which is 120+ feet of elevation the GPS coordinates will show. But interestingly when I use NAV and select the address show GPS they show up regardless of elevation!

I forgot to mention, I don't have the ORP's on mine but haven't spent much time trying to figure it out.

Mine is running v20.04.19 so was planning on digging into that a bit. From what I gather I'd likely have to try numerous vins on the unconnect website to find one that will allow me to download the update but again I'm just at the beginning stages of digging into that.

Tazer JL has an option to enable ORP
