JLWF has just confirmed that the JL start of production has been pushed up two weeks -- now with a Job 1 launch date of Monday, October 16, 2017. Note however, that there will be a 90-day yard hold on new models before shipping to dealerships so the first JL Wranglers will likely not hit dealerships until mid-January 2018.

Coinciding with this, the JL/JLU also officially appeared for the first time today in dealership allocation systems which is an indication that allocation and ordering will open in October.

As you can see, the next-gen Wrangler receives the JM (2-door) and JP (4-door) internal dealership code so make sure your dealer does not confuse it with the JK codes in their internal systems -- See here for a detailed explanation.

Here is the breakdown (again confirming no 2-door JL Sahara):

Next-Gen 2018 JL Wrangler model codes:
    JLJL72 - Wrangler Sport
    JLJS72 - Wrangler Rubicon
    JLJL74 - Wrangler Unlimited Sport
    JLJP74 - Wrangler Unlimited Sahara
    JLJS74 - Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon

    2018 JK Wrangler model codes:
    JKJL72 - Wrangler Sport
    JKJP72 - Wrangler Sahara
    JKJS72 - Wrangler Rubicon
    JKJM74 - Wrangler Unlimited Sport
    JKJP74 - Wrangler Unlimited Sahara
    JKJS74 - Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon

    ANOTHER UPDATE:

The 2018 JLU now comes up in dealership systems when building an order (see below)!

No other info has been loaded yet but this means the system is primed for order banks to open any day now. This also corroborates a 4-door only initial launch as noted in our 2018-19 JL production timeline.

Does this mean we can order today (or in the coming two weeks)?

Any idea on when we can configure the JL online? It's going to be hard choosing options and specs without seeing or knowing what they all are...

Order banks aren’t open yet, options just starting to appear in the system in advance of them opening and accepting orders. So that dealers can prepare what they want to order themselves and what they will order with their customers.

Order banks likely to open in the next 7 days IMO.

Does this mean it has to be revealed before the 16th?

    Nope.

Order Banks typically open before Production, which typically starts before official press launch and it appearing on the Jeep.com site, etc.

Although I’d still wager that SEMA is the first glimpse, not LA.

Really kind of bummed that according to the above, these will not hit dealer show rooms until mid January. I had hoped to see one in person long before that...

January was always the expected arrival date on them. If it even went quickly by JK ordering standards with no holds and no slow ramp up of production, 6 weeks from previous Nov 13th production launch date pit you right on Xmas day, so add plus time off for Xmas & New Year break, meant Jan 2nd would be the short end of the JK’s typical 6-8weeks from order to delivery.

I said before I expect 12 weeks delivery time for the first orders, until production is fully up and optimized.
Didn’t expect that 12wks/90days was going to be consumed by yard hold alone. :(

Allow me to be the first to publicly admit that I just wet myself!
On a more serious note: I have been to my local Jeep dealership and the salesman are "playing dumb" about knowing anything about the confusion between the dealer system ordering nomenclature distinguishing the current generation JK's and the new gen JL's. Has anyone else ran into this?

So they were saying mid/late Dec in the beginning and now they are saying they are moving the date up by 2 weeks bit not to expect them in dealships till mid January? That does not make much sense.

please please please be a SEMA reveal

Also if ordering opens on the 16th wont we know all the options for sure then as they will have to have a description of every option so the dealers know how to equip them.
