This was my first time installing lights and using the aux switches. I’m not sure what I did wrong and would appreciate any help.
TL;DR:
I installed some KC Cyclone Rock lights on my ‘21 Diesel JLU, with factory installed aux switch set to battery. Lights worked, and everything seemed fine. The Jeep wouldn’t start the next morning. Disconnected the wire harnesses and fuse box so nothing I installed was connected, jumped the jeep, letting it run before shutting down. I did this twice. Each time the car wouldn’t start back up. Removed the previously disconnected fuse box from the engine bay, and changed the aux switch back to ignition. Car started right up with no jump needed. It's been fine for a couple of days now and I don’t know what the problem is/was. I’m not sure if I should try again, or just cut my losses on the lights.
Context:
I have a 2021 JLU Diesel with factory installed aux switches. Prior to this install, all 4 aux switches had never been used. I was installing the KC Cyclone v2 LED 6 light system.
Existing electrical is all stock with the exception of a winch wired straight to the battery (which has been working fine for 2 years)
Install:
The lights themselves were mounted using magnet mounts and the wire harnesses were run through the frame and into the engine bay. The engine bay wiring was as follows: all 6 harness power was to the KC supplied fuse block. All 6 wire harness ground were directly to the battery. The fuse block power was directly to the aux switch 4 wire. I changed the aux switch setup so that it was set to battery.
After wiring, I tested and everything worked fine. I drove the jeep as normal that day and made sure the aux switch was off when I parked it in the garage overnight.
Problems:
The next morning the car wouldn’t start. I assumed I did something wrong and drained the battery. I disconnected the fuse block from the aux wire, and removed the harness ground wires from the battery. I jumped started my jeep, drove it around the block and let it idle for 10 minutes.
Came back an hour later, and again the jeep wouldn’t start. I thought maybe I didn’t leave running long enough the first time, so I jumped it again and this time drove it for about 40 minutes. Turned the ignition off and came back 5 minutes later and again the car wouldn’t start.
At this point, I disconnected the harness from the fuse block and removed the fuse block from the engine bay. I also switched aux 4 from battery back to ignition. While sitting in the driver’s seat contemplating life and why I got myself into this mess, I pressed the ignition and the jeep fired right up on its own, no jump start.
At this point things have been running fine for two days. I’d like to try and get the lights installed again, but I have no idea what was wrong, or why removing a previously disconnected fuse block would allow the car to start.
Apologies for the wall of text, and any help would be appreciated.
