I have the 5 inch radio and have had the same issues for the past 9 months with radio shutting down every few minutes when iPhone plugged in and extremely slow response times. I”ve has it at the dealership 3 times. They updated the software but it didn’t fix anything.

For my 4th visit they have finally agreed to replace the radio. I don’t have much hope it will fix it since it will be the same 5 inch radio and so many others have had the same problems. I’ll post if it changes.

I have the same issue. My 5" Uconnect worked perfectly for the first 9 months and only in the past month has it started crashing every time I plug in my iPhone into the USB. Once it reboots it works fine, unless my wife has her iPhone plugged in as well, at which time it will endlessly crash every couple of minutes. Syncing with bluetooth is more stable but not desirable.

Its time to take it in to the dealer.

I'm having the same issues as everyone - I just bought my first Jeep and am really disappointed in the archaic software of the base 5" radio. I wanted a base 2 door Jeep without all the bells and whistles, crank windows and all. That being said, paying this amount of money for a new car, I expected it to work properly and not have it freeze or be unresponsive. I've also reached out to Jeep Cares as others have and will update with the resolution.

I have the exact same issues. I can't use the USB ports because system will reboot, I can't turn down volume for 5-7 seconds when I start my Jeep because it just doesn't respond, and bluetooth paring takes almost a minute after starting and I have to manually select the source every time. I've driven new Fords, Chevys, and Toyota rentals for work and none of their bluetooth stereos have these problems. Considering my Jeep cost way more than any of those other cars I'd expect a higher quality stereo system.

I've mentioned these issues with my local Jeep dealer and they were unaware of any of these problems.

Did you have any luck the Jeep Social Care Specialist?

EXACT Same problems @dannosky

I've driven a Hyundai rental car that has had a superior radio system to this one. I wish I would have known how much this sucked before purchase, I would have made every effort to get the 7" or 8.4" before I drove off the lot.

Same with my dealer... they had "never heard of these problems" which I find incredible considering how much there is about it on these boards and with a simple google search.

Re: @JeepCares , they've been great so far. Very responsive and trying to escalate the level with my complaint. First step is to take it to the dealer, which I just did this morning and will report back.

To add insult to injury, dealer put me in a Cherokee for rental and the radio system is friggin' pristine (anything would be after dealing with this 5" system). Nice big screen, beautiful resolution and graphics, INCREDIBLE sound quality. Why Jeep? Why couldn't you just have given the Sport a little nicer radio??

Seriously considering the infotainment.com upgrade to 7" even though it is double the price of what it should be.

Same issue here as described in posts 58+. I've had my Sport S at the dealership three times now. The first time was for a Uconnect software upgrade in October 2018 , which did not resolve the issue. Twice this month as I got tired of waiting for another software update to hopefully fix it.
My testing: Two different iPhones (iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 Plus), both phones running the latest iOS, tried multiple cables--Apple cables and third-party cables, both USB ports (A and C) in the Sport S. Tried various audio sources--iTunes, Spotify, and YouTube. No matter what combination of hardware and software I use, I am able to reproduce the issue. The radio reboots and the clock resets to 12:00. Frustrating. It is clearly an issue with the 5" system based on my testing and the issue being reported by several others in this forum.
I will mention that the dealership has been as helpful as they can be, but they are clearly at the mercy of FCA's/Uconnect's tech team. I am hoping @JeepCares is able to escalate and help resolve this issue.

UPDATE:

Went to dealer, they attempted to do firmware upgrade and unfortunately now all I see on my screen is this:
SOFTWARE UPDATE FAILED, PLEASE RE-INSERT USB DEVICE

So dealer now has to order a new 5" Uconnect to replace the one they bricked while trying to update. Meanwhile, I'm stuck driving with this bricked radio until the new one comes in. Unfortunately, they won't upgrade it to the 7" as I requested because of the loss of functionality of dash volume control. As a dealer, they don't want to be liable for that.

INTERESTINGLY... The problem with the radio re-booting on plugging in my iphone is NOW FIXED . This is actually the only way I can use the radio now since you can't see any of the functions of the radio on the screen (see image) and all of the functionality to play audio/podcasts/books etc is all on the phone.

Will update again when they replace with new 5" Uconnect unit. :computerrage:

Is there a case set up on the Customer Care side, jhunter? Send me a direct message with your VIN as I'd be glad to escalate your inquiry for further handling.

Yeah the radio is garbage..... The base radio in a KIA Rio is probably better than this.. It's so bad I almost think it should have came with an 8-Track player..

Sadly, this is what Jeep chose to put in a 40K vehicle and it does not look like upgrading it is an easy option..

The sad, sad, sad thing is that here we are, over a year later and this is STILL true. Can't believe Jeep put such a CRAPPY radio in a great vehicle. What did you end up doing @raqball and are you happy with it?

UPDATE:

So they replaced my unit with a new one at the end of May Same crappy functionality as the old 5" but at AT LEAST it didn't re-boot every 30 seconds after I plugged my iphone in via USB like the old one.

Until yesterday... yup. Same problem. iphone plugged in via USB now (once again) causes the unit to crash, reboot, reset the time and continue to do so every 30-60 sec while the phone is plugged into USB.

Unbelievable that this issue has been going on for at least 1.5 years for people and Jeep still hasn't been able to come up with a firmware upgrade or at least another option for those us suffering from this piece of crap 5" Uconnect radio.

Swapped for 7. Installed PAC, amp, speakers and powered sub. Finally happy.

In case anybody at Jeep who actually makes decisions is reading this, these sorts of canned responses on forums like this only serve to make people angrier and make you look way worse than if you said nothing. Everybody knows PMing some faceless social media trolling Jeep/FCA employee is going to do nothing but waste your time, don't even bother.

I have the Uconnect 3, 5" and I can't believe how pathetic it is. It reboots/resets randomly, takes a long time to respond to turning the volume knob up or down, takes a long time to respond when pushing any of the buttons, and is not very iPhone friendly. On top of that, Jeep makes you think you are getting a system that has apps so you can connect to your vehicle via phone app for more than just playing music. They talk up UConnect like it is the next best thing to sliced bread when in fact it's more like a burnt heel.
How can Jeep be proud of this system? What is Jeep going to do about it? Maybe it requires a class action lawsuit.

Jeep needs to support this monstrosity and come up with a solution.

Compared to the way my engine runs, the radio is pretty good. Ha ha. The "radio" still has all the same problems everybody else has, but it kinda works good, sometimes. The engine RUNS bad ALL the time and they can't even fix THAT; so I wouldn't be surprised about not being able to get the radio fixed. FCA/Jeep is the most pathetic organization of liars and avoidance specialists I have ever had to deal with. It actually boggles the mind that these situations can exist; and nothing can, or will, be done about it.
