Uconnect 3 5” Apple Car Play?

I recently rented a car with Apple Car Play. My 2018 Sport has the 5” Unconnect without Car Play, but I thought I read an article a while ago about the new version of the low end Uconnect coming with Car Play. I can’t seem to find the article now. Does anybody know if the new generation of 5” Uconnect has/will have Car Play?

I don’t want to upgrade to one of the bigger models or aftermarket as I really don’t need any of the other features and don’t want the big brother features.

I don’t know. I also have LED taillights, parking assistance, tow package, blind spot detection, but base HVAC and radio.....

Ah, my son just enlightened me. It's because your Jeep does not have the Technology package. I forgot my wife's has the Tech package, that's why hers has the upgraded HVAC stuff! He's a genius.

No programming needed to go from 5" to 7".

Reviving this thread. If I buy a Uconnect 5 out of any JL will it work in my ‘18 Sport? Thanks!

It is VIN specific to prevent theft. If the previous owner has the security pin then yes. If not it’s a whole ordeal that will involve a dealership and you proving ownership. If they are so “inclined” to help you that is.

It takes a 3 minute phone call if you have the original vin number of the vehicle it came from. I believe infotainment sends them blank so there’s no pin necessary. Also have to consider that you are losing your volume knob by going this route. Just fyi.

When I completed this mod I was happy to give up my volume knob and that joke of a radio to gain the functionality of  CarPlay and other benefits. I was able to use my steering wheel mounted volume control with missing the know one bit. 3 yrs ago when I initially posted this mod the new head units were shipping with a card which contained the security pin. I am happy to hear they have streamlined the process.
