a "2 cylinder turbo"? My 2.0L has 4 cylinders + turbo ;). jk
I like the fuel economy that I'm getting with my 2L but I dont like the sound. Reminds me of my son's Ford Fiesta, which actually has a larger engine than my Jeep. I didn't drive the v6 so I have no experience with it.
I almost bought the 6 cylinder based totally on the hampster wheel sound of the turbo engine but the performance of the turbo had me sold. I also have a GTI that is a mini monster with a turbo engine so I knew that the tuners will be out there feeding us the power that FCA is scared to give us in stock form.

This has been my concern with 2.0 T, because it is direct injected and as with all direct injected engines, there will be carbon/oil deposit build up on the back side of the intake valves. The issue will not surface until well outside of any typical warranty period. The issue will require a teardown and mechanical cleaning, and it will affect the performance of the engine if not corrected. There are spray-in products on the market that claim to clean the valves but it won't be the same as a manual cleaning.

I am not bashing the 2.0, because it seems a great engine power-wise. However I had a 2017 Mustang ecoboost with the turbo 4 (also a great engine) but same direct injected setup. I put a catch can on my Mustang, and regularly pulled several tablespoons of oil out of it every 5K miles that otherwise would have gone right into the intake and over time and many miles, caked on the valves.

There is no known engineering fix for this because it is simply a function of the engine's design. The fuel squirts into the cylinder and does not wash over the intake valves first like a port injected engine. That is one of the ways you are able to squeeze so much power out of a 4 cylinder (along with the turbo of course)

IMHO, if you don't plan on keeping the jeep for many years and over 80K miles, then it doesn't matter and it will be the next guy's problem when he buys a high mileage 2.0T. Otherwise, plan on taking off the intake and valve cover and having the valves removed and cleaned, etc, when you get up to 80K plus miles.
Thanks for your experience! I have an oil catch can as well installed and I do intend to keep this car till it gives out. Hoping in 10 years I can pass it down to my young daughter.

I have a savings account for these kind of things but, I just hope it doesn't cost me too much. Have been thinking of picking up extended warranty as well... Love the way it drives though!

Had a rough start with the car as well with electrical issues but they got sorted out.

So I have had both and have the 2.0 in my 2020 JLUR. Love it. Look at my post in what did you do today thread, and see all it did effortlessly around the San Juan Mountians. Not to mention between the 800miles of there, back, and wheeling for 3.5 days straight with 35’s up to 12.5hrs one day I averaged 20.5 mpg and 24-25 on the drive back home. Honestly I just love the torque and how it will chirp the 35’s offroad easily.

My man love the look of the gas tanks! I'm trying to keep my Jeep as minimal as possible with the offroad stuff and those look like they would be easy to install and remove after going on an adventure. Where did you get it?

From Northridge 4x4. I went with the Fuelpax 2.5gallons and the ez tire mount for them.

Mishimoto intercooler pipe (14 ft lbs). Race Chips GTS Tuner (40 ft lbs). AFE Muffler delete & air filter (5? Ft lbs). Dynos are showing that Jeep is under reporting stock torque numbers. So if thats the case it may be at 315 (+-) stock. I also put in the Pedal Commander throttle modifier (no performance gains). I may put it on the dyno for giggles.
Speaking of no performance gains, will you be replacing the spare with a carbon fibre looking fiberglass wing for down force?

Has anyone put a turbo on a Penstar V6?

Edit: Just did a catch up read on Turbo's and Superchargers on Penstar. Heat is an issue. Personally.....I dont have a power issue with my JL.....always looking for the latest and greatest......but I am generally happy with modest and reliable performance.
You seem new to this topic. Don't watch a video and be so quick to conclude. Production supercharger kits haven't had "heat issues" of any kind when added to Pentastars. Some idiots might cover up the grille openings with flags and such and I honestly feel sorry for the state of the world when I see such stupid mods. Turbos on the otherhand may have because the hot turbo sits under the hood.

Having owned 2 V6 JK’s now a 2 liter turbo I can easily say this is by far my favorite.
Which V6s did you have in the JK? I assume the 3.6?

I wasn't expecting any differences in performance in the JL 3.6 either but in the JL with the auto, I can be at above 65mph (we can't go much faster here) on 8th gear (0.67 ratio) and the engine at maybe 2000 rpm or under and it still accelerates without downshifting to 7.

The JK 5 speed's 5th has a ratio of 0.83 which is significantly better for acceleration thab 0.67 of the JL's 8th but I can't ever remember the JK 3.6 accelerating at that speed without downshifting to 4th.

The 3.6 in the JL sounds different (better) too and this is confirmed by family who don't care about sound differences.

Awesome. I'm going to do all three passes next week with a mixing of Moab then finish it off with the Rubicon trail.

I test drove JL's with the V6 and turbo4 (non-etorque) back to back. To me, the turbo 4 had more low end power around the city. And then when I compared for interstate driving, the turbo 4 had more steam left at high speeds while the V6 seemed like it was a lot softer at those speeds. However, the V6 definitely sounds better and is a little bit smoother. Anyway, I bought my JLUR with the turbo 4 as that was my preference. The engine has a little over 800 miles on it and I'm getting 20mpg around the city. Maybe it will go up even more as the engine runs in?

When my wife wanted a JLU three months agoshe test drove a regular Rubicon with the 3.6L and then a Recon with the 2.0L turbo eTorque right after that. She liked the performance of the 2.0 slightly better and as a passenger (I didn't drive either one) it felt like the 2.0 had a little more zip when taking off from a stop or slow speed. She ended up buying the 2.0 Recon and is very happy with it.

On her daily commute she gets around 22 mpg, up from 17 mpg that she got in her old 2013 JK.

Just test drove 2020 Jeep Sahara with 2.0T with 167 miles on odometer to compare steering with my vehicle. At first, I thought it has V6, but when looked at the sticker - it was 2.0T. But it was not like Rubicon performance. It did not pull as strong as mine and was pretty much what I would expect from average 2.0T. Possible, the difference is result of higher gear ratio that gives Rubicon a bit more torque and possibly responsible for lower max speed limit.

The Rubicon is geared shorter than a Sahara. 4.10 vs 3.45, respectively. That gives the Rubi better acceleration, but will be at a higher rpm to maintain 70mph in 8th gear. The Sahara won't accelerate as fast, but will run at a lower rpm @ 70 in 8th.

How is the 2.0 with towing vs the 3.6 V6? I really had my sights set on a Rubicon with the non etorque 3.6 V6 because I'd occasionally be towing my 17' Lund aluminum fishing boat. Sounds like the new 2.0 has plenty of power, but towing with a 4 banger seems strange to me - I'm a little old fashioned I guess....

FWIW: The 2.0 is rated the same as the 3.6.

As for which one is "better"... good luck getting everyone to agree on an answer.

How slow do you drive on the freeway to get such great fuel economy? I didn't get better than 20 mpg stock and with the 2.5" lift and 37's combined with 80 mph speed limits in Utah we averaged 14.2 on our moab trip.

Which is about 300 rpm or 5% more in the band.
