Ok driving the Jeep around today I’ll clarify my “rattle”. It is most common at low rpm just after cold start. After a mile down the road the noise seems to mostly go away and I have to really try to hear it.

During my next routine maintenance I’ll ask their opinion and update in the future.

I have a couple videos where you can faintly hear the rattle/tick noise. The videos are kind of long, but you can hear the noise intermittently throughout.

I'm using very expensive headphones, so I can hear your videos well, and I can tell you that the sounds you have are exactly the sounds I have.

Yeah, it’s usually when I let off of the gas that the noise happens. I’m not for sure what it is with 100% certainty, but since it’s been doing it for awhile and I took it in and they told me it was normal, I’m just going to keep monitoring it for now. Please follow-up whenever you take yours in for service next. Maybe they’ll give you more info.

I think most people that are having the rattle/tick issue notice it at lower RPMs for sure. Please update when you visit your service department and give us the feedback you get.

I tried recording it over the weekend, but you couldn't really hear it over the wind noise because my doors were off. The OP said before that he was going to try to record his as well. Did you ever get a recording @zzman930?

I think you're right. This would make sense why the service department called it "normal turbo noise" and that there's nothing to do to fix it... plus no one is getting a CEL or anything weird. Isn't it weird that not everyone hears the noise though?
I do have a recording but I can’t upload it from my phone apparently, I’ll try to update later tonight from my laptop. For the people that hear the rattle, do you use the auto start stop feature? I always turn mine off and I on multiple occasions have had a light come on my dash saying that the feature would not work at that moment. I doubt it but maybe that is part of it?

I usually turn it off and have never had lights come on due to turning it off. I personally don’t think it’s related, but I have no idea.

Anymore news on this from anyone?
I’m taking mine in for a second opinion on July 11th. I’m also trying to get a Care Specialist assigned. Anyone else?

FWIW I went in and they found my exhaust clamps loose. It seemed to help some.
Yes, the sound could be that or just the direct injection system. Most direct injection systems sound like a diesel under load and unloading throttle.

Anyone that has the rattle, did you have your heater core replaced by any chance like I did? I found on a heater core thread that someone was hearing rattling after the replacement and that’s around when mine started as well

No, I have not had that replaced on mine, but I will have the service department check it tomorrow when I take it in for a second opinion at another local dealership. I will follow-up whatever feedback I get. You discover anything else new?

I posted about it in a Jeep group and responses I got were that it could be wastegate fluttering, heat shield, heatercoil vibrating, loose exhaust, or simply a turbo going bad

Good to know. I'm going to print off the last couple comments in the thread to take with me, so that the service department may be able to narrow down the issue. Thanks for the feedback, and I'll make sure to update after tomorrow!

I just found this from turbosmart https://www.turbosmart.com/news/five-facts-about-wastegates-that-are-wrong/

The sound of turbo flutter, or compressor surge, is sometimes referred to as ‘wastegate chatter’ – but this noise has nothing to do with the wastegate. Compressor surge, as the name suggests, occurs on the compressor side of the turbocharger, where outside air is drawn in and compressed for the engine to consume. A wastegate is used on the turbine side, where exhaust gasses are used to spin the turbine wheel to operate the compressor. That fluttering sound, which typically occurs when the throttle is suddenly closed, is the sound of the turbo trying to push air into the engine but failing, so the compressor blades ‘chop’ through the air. You can read more about this phenomenon here.
