Was looking for a simpler front bumper. This is my wife's jeep and she never plans on offroading so no need for a winch. I was fine with the look of the stock bumper other than how far it sticks out (for a winch/ crash protection)
I was looking online at the tube bumpers but didn't like the grill guard, neither did the wife.
That's when I took off the plastic.
Which looked pretty good and could have been modified to look finished.
This is where you will have to bare with me. My idea for a tube bumper was to mandrel bend the ends and ditch the grill guard. Plate the center and try to recess it in some to remove some of the overhang.
I found a left over 2.25" 16 guage exhaust kit from a previous project that didn't materialize. And got to work.
Turns out with the pipe length / radius I had 45 degrees was too much to mount it recessed without being super stubby ( not even covering both sides of the frame ends. This could have been corrected with some thing like a 20 degree angle. To the ends but working with what I had here is where I wound up.

Almost head on. Thinking it's a bit too shiny

It's creative at best, and I agree with my neighbor. To make it look less like a toothless smile, a black powder-coating would look better to help blend with the behind the bumper bits. Maybe it's the viewing angle, but the driver-side appears to be more angled rearwards.

Again...creative----who needs all that expensive aftermarket hoopla?

I actually really like the offering from Barnes, the model without all the stupidity down low for the "crash bars."

I wanted to build something similar but theirs is so inexpensive I might have to order it. I imagine it'd look fine without a winch

The wife wants to test out a few colors first, we allready know pink and red are out of the question ha ha, probably end up black.
If I was going to spend the money for powder coating I would want to have it remade professionally.
It is very possible that the 2 sides are uneven I don't know what the tolerance is on exhaust tube bends and the clearance for the Slip joint could have easily lead to that, I didn't have any fixturing

Here’s one installed with a skid and then the rest of my stuff. Really like it. Pretty minimal, stout and unique.
