Noticed the passenger side wire hanging this afternoon. I used the rear defogger for the first time a few days ago. My JL is not quite 3 months old with less than 4K on it. I guess I am headed to the dealer at some point.

Houston Jeepers - which dealer is the best? NW Dodge is near me, but they completely suck.

I replied to your earlier Thread. Go see Ryan at Helfman at I-10 and Silber. He has been the best service advisor that I have ever worked with.

I sent him the suggested Mopar epoxy repair for the defroster but he replaced the entire back window instead.

Amazingly I had my 3rd piece of new rear glass installed last week. Yep, you guessed it. Still doesn't work. When i picked it up the wiring hardness wasn't even attached. How could they test it without attaching it...oh yeah, they didn't. In all likelihood both this and the last glass were fine and there is either a short or its in the harness itself. 19 months with the jeep and never had a working re-defroster!

20+K 4th fix, a new window, wire now attached, however not sure if defroster working??? Window replaced September 2019 since first of 3 repairs waited 8 months for new window finally arrived after help from "JeepCares"! I assumed (should never!) that it was good, wouldn't dry off a damp window the other day so, rear outside mirrors get warm, Back window does not? Here we go again!

Go Jeep!!!

I had the fix applied back in October when I reinstalled the hard top.
Not a new window, but the solder repair kit I guess.
Anyways, yesterday was the first big snow/ice storm and I was excited to test out the defroster to see if it was working.
Looked in my rear view mirror and low and behold, it the cable was hanging/dangling again.

Jeesh.

The tech started since the glass had already been sanded down and the first repair kit didnā€™t work they should just replace the glass.
My service manager took photos and sent them in for approval.
The claim was denied and they were instructed to use the 12.50 fix again.
I will be extra annoyed when I need to make a trip back in another week or two with the same issue...

Ugh...

2018 Jeep, purchased October 2018, 7k miles.

Particularly cold day and notice rear defrost not doing much of anything. Checked it out this weekend and yep, both wires just hanging down uselessly. Not looking forward to bringing her in to get fixed, but I plan to.

Thanks Alex,
I just don't understand why this is an ongoing issue.
If the tech said it won't hold again, why is somebody miles away denying them the right to install a proper fix?
I have no choice, if this happens again I will be reaching out/calling in to complain, but I don't want to risk my VIN being flagged as a "problem customer"

So, at least for now, it seems the epoxy connection is holding since I had a local dealership repair it.

However, it does not seem like the read defroster is actually doing anything. I have tried putting it on a few times and it doesn't seem to get warm but I hadn't had any icy conditions until today.

I had some ice on the back window today when leaving to take my daughter somewhere and I intentionally did not scrape it. It wasn't a lot of ice or very thick at all. I put on the defroster and drove for about 15 minutes without turning on the back wiper. When I arrived at where I was going there was just barely any sign of melting and no obvious striping along the lines. I kind of think any melting that was happening was related to the cabin heating up. The back window also fogged up a bit and there was no sign of lines like I would normally see In my wife's Buick Enclave. On the Enclave there can be thick ice on the back window and within 5 minutes of turning on the defroster it's visibly melting, so I can't imagine the one on my Jeep is working. Looks like I will be going back to the dealership

If you are going to try the permatex conductive epoxy method, be sure to trim the rubber boot back enough so the metal contact will lay flat on the new (recommended) attachment point. Also allow the fixer to dry and use a minimal spot of well kneaded conductive epoxy.
