This is an odd one. After a year and 18,000 trouble free miles, my trunk decided that it didn’t want to open this morning.

I have proximity locks, but very rarely lock the doors (I have a soft top). This morning I went to open the trunk to toss in my gym bag and the lights flashed, but door would not open. Pressed lock button, but nothing happened. Tried driver door and it was fine. Press lock on driver door and it locked. Unlocked from driver door and it unlocked. Trunk was not budging, however. I used the mechanical key to open it and went to the gym. When I was done, trunk opened fine. Hmmm.

Drove to work, got out and closed driver door (but did not lock it), then went to the trunk to grab my bag. Nope! Denied, again.

Before I make an appt, anyone seen this? Maybe a way to reset proximity by way of yanking a fuse?

Update: It happened, again. I’m starting to think the actuator (or what ever mechanism turns the lock) is intermittently failing. The lights flash, so I’m sure it’s trying to unlock. (I also tried the unlock button on the driver door and on the remote.)

I guess I’ll have to bring it in sometime before the warranty is up. In the meantime, I’m going to ditch my AJT key fob and go back to stock. (I’m disappointed in the feel of the AJT fob, anyway. Certainly it’s not ideal if you have to use the mechanical key several times a day.)

Bumping this. What ended up happening? I’m having this exact issue right now. It worked about a week ago.

@Rhinebeck01 gave me some hints on (very carefully) adjusting the latch mechanism. That solved the issue.

If you search YouTube for “adjust trunk latch” you’ll see lots of examples, albeit for other makes/models. The info is pretty universal, though. Use masking tape to mark original position so you don’t accidentally adjust too much.

It’s persnickety work, but very easy. Not the kind of thing a dealership tech will have much time or patience to do for you, so I suggest doing it yourself when you’re in a good mood and in no hurry.

Yeah my ‘18 just hit 14k miles so I’m still well in the warranty. I was just going to take it in. My local dealership is good people
