Posting a follow up. I've had the Jeep on the Noco 5 for 2 months. I finally checked it and not sure when in those 2 months this happened but the charger has an error. Error says it's shorted or not charging. So I'll be troubleshooting this eventually to try and see if it's the charger or if my battery is dying. Battery was new in August 2023.

Assuming you haven't already done the following...

I'd start by checking the fuses on both of the charger's battery cables and making sure the clamps have good contact with the battery posts.

After that, serious suggestion: unplug the charger from the AC/house and plug it back in to restart it. Does the same indicator light show up right away?

So Sunday when after I discovered the problem I let it set overnight, unplugged it and then hooked it back up. It started flashing red as if it was charging so I left in. Then at some point overnight it failed again.

As another data point this morning the voltage read 12.4V. Now at 5PM it's reading 12.57V. After sitting since Saturday I just turned it on and it started up no problem.

Try the charger on a different battery.

Brainstorming possibilities... I'm thinking you might have high resistance where I told you to place the negative clamp (if so, oopsies 😬) because it's making light contact with the not-so-conductive nut and stud. It might be worth finding a better way to clamp it, even if you have to bypass the IBS (not the end of the world, just not best practice) to experiment.

It was working for a while. I'm not sure when the error started but I do know it did get to and was still at green charging at least a week after I had hooked up the Noco 5.

If it's user error on my part on not hooking it up quite right I think that would be the best answer as opposed to needing a new battery.

Yes, based on the picture I saw, it should work. But it could also cause a heat buildup that eventually makes the charger angry, which might explain why the failure is intermittent.

I'm also on board with the extension cord theory.

I can't really mess with it anymore tonight but I'll have all of Saturday to go grab another extension cord. Maybe something slightly shorter although I do need to have a long run from the closest outlet. This is what I was using:

I'm thinking of picking up one of these. I did the measurements and I can't make it out of the garage from any outlet in under 20 feet so I think I have to go 50 no matter what.

We’re trying to get a front axle installed here not turn @SadRobot into an electrician….although it could be a good side gig for extra Jeep money under the table,
I do actually have one of those Klein outlet testers. I bought it when one of my lights went out in my laundry room and I had to figure out why. I wanted to make sure if I was messing around with switches and outlets I knew if it was hot so I didn't shock myself. 😂

The “sniffer” one? Me too, the fewer surprises the better when doing wiring. If you had the other one you would be set to test the extension cord voltage drop. But a lot of people are trying to spend your money here. 😂
