I have a JL Sport with the auto transmission and have really enjoyed it (3200 miles on it currently). I've noticed that when coming to a stop (particularly slow stops) the transmission sometimes shudders a bit going into first gear. It feels a bit like an imperfect shift on a manual.

It runs fine and doesn't make any odd noises. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Thanks!

Hi xpsruler,

Although we're not trained technicians, if you decide to get this looked at by the dealer, let us know. We're available via direct message and would be glad to escalate your inquiry for further handling.

Do you have the Auto Stop on or off? I find that sometimes auto stop doesn't quite do its thing. The vehicle almost shuts off at intersections when I stop, but it shudders just a bit and then keeps running.

does it hang for a bit before it downshifts?

If you flutter your brake pedal just a little bit it will cause that. I have found that if you mash the brake pedal it will engage the ESS. If you hold the brake just light enough to stop but not push hard the ESS wont engage. I think there is a spot that if it is down jsut enough it is that little spot where it wants to turn off but then wont cause the pedal isnt down as far as it wants.

Reviving an old thread.

was this ever recognized as an issue?

my 19 auto trans has a pretty good shudder when slowing down to a stop when driving around town and stopping at stop signs. Only way for me to describe it is it seems to be in fifth gear while stopping and around 4-5 mph right before the stop it seems to shift down and feels as if it catches every gear down for a partial second creating a shudder right before the complete stop.

not sure if thatā€™s actually whatā€™s happening in the trans or not, thatā€™s just me describing the feeling when it happens. It happens every time though. Itā€™s not an intermittent thing so idk if itā€™s normal for the 8spd or not.

Iā€™ll have to try that. I always disable the start/stop when driving also so itā€™s definitely not that. It happens in mostly all around town driving. My town speed limit is 25mph with stop signs at almost every corner so my trans never goes past 5th or 6th while in town and Iā€™m stopping pretty frequently till Iā€™m out of town. Never fails though. Right before the full stop thereā€™s a nice shudder. Itā€™s not insignificant but itā€™s not major if that makes sense. Itā€™s 100% noticeable but not so bad to where you think somethings going to break. Iā€™ll check out the rpm though on my way home today. Maybe have the dealership check it out during the next service.
