I am not able to to take the transfer case from N, following flat towing to any gear.
This following the User Manual for 2018 JL Sport Automatic.
The only way said operation can be performed violates the instructions with the engine running and gear clash.
Local Dealer was not able to operate properly either.
Said Dealer pulled a new unit from inventory, same problem.
They are now contacting Jeep Technical.

Hopefully FCA gets it figured out. Lots of people, me included, bought Jeeps just for this purpose.

Have flat towed my 2018 JLR 8 sp auto twice about 200 miles each time. Had no trouble. After disconnecting BlueOx tow system Jeep emergency brake on start engine put in 4 low release brake move vehicle forward slowly and put in 4 hi with out stopping in neutral no nash of gears.

Jimac glad that works for you, I'll keep that in mind.

My point with Jeep; it is clearly stated on Pages 179 and 180 in the Users Manual that the Jeep can and should be shifted from TC N to TC 2H/4H without the engine running. They warn against shifting with the engine running.
Jeep Customer Care is adamant that the UM is correct and closed my Inquiry.
Told me to take it to the Dealer (been there now twice). They have not been able to shift following the directions with my vehicle or one other new unit.
I want them to come up with a viable (damage free) solution and change the manual accordingly if necessary.

I will have to look at manual but I was told and have always (5 Jeep’s JLR 1st FCA) have had engine running and moving 1 to 2 mph when shifting transfer case

You might try joining IRV2 forums. (IRV2.com). I don’t hang there much, but lots of flat tow knowledge at that site. Lots of Jeep owners too..

Jeep needs to do one of two things:

Adjust or repair my 18JL Wrangler Automatic so as to comply with the operational manual or
develop a procedure by which I can shift said unit(s) from Transmission P Transfer Case N without the engine running to any gear and modify the Manual accordingly.

If that means while moving, so be it.

I'm just following explicit directions in the Manual with the associated warnings.
Two new Units say it can't be done as written. If I follow Jeeps instructions, which I can't and shift with the engine running and damage my unit as they strongly state I could, then my Warranty is void and the associated costs are on me.

My Dealer is consulting with Jeep technical support.
Results TBD.

I am familiar with IRV2.

Have them go through the Flat Tow procedure with you. Do it for real. You don't have to tow.
Follow the Manual exactly.

What I find interesting is that the owner’s manual makes no mention or warning about shifting the transfer case from N to 4H to 4L with the engine running in the transfer case section of the owner’s manual. Maybe because you are not supposed to stop in N. They tell you to shift from 4H directly to 4L and vice versa without stopping in N.

The flat tow instruction specifically state the engine should be off and the tranny in neutral.

@Hypalon Man, sorry, but i did not read your post until after I took delivery. I'll try and play with the shifting process after Christmas.

I'm sorry also, because my JLR/w manual tranny shifts (TC) into 4hi/4lo with the engine OFF-however-

Sometimes I have to move the jeep an inch forward/backward and the (TC) drops right into gear--have you tried that ??

That slight movement will "JOG" the (TC)gears for alignment-

Thanks for the suggestion and tip.
My point of contention with Jeep. Be able to Do it as the Users Guide states, come up with a new procedure, fix the Jeep or modify the Guide to something that works.

This is what Jeep has come back with thus far:

Hi Dennis,
I checked your case and I see that your Case Specialist spoke with your dealer who explained that your Jeep is operating as designed. The service advisor XXXX stated that the transfer case on the new wranglers are synchronized. The gears, if not lined up, may not let you shift into 2hi until either the engine is running or we roll the vehicle to line it up so we can shift into 2hi. If you feel that your vehicle is not operating in the manner, I suggest speaking with your dealer to have this investigated further.
Lydia
Jeep Social Care Specialist

My contention is, if you follow the Jeep instructions in the Users Manual you cannot perform the shift in the manner they are suggesting above.
I just want them to modify the Users Manual to reflect their new suggestions. I underlined the comment above.
What the Care Specialist is suggesting, is in direct conflict with the Users Manual.
