It works in any transfer case position. You will hear the ABS pump when it’s happening. Unless you have an Atlas like the post above yours, most of the time you can’t keep it from spinning completely. It really depends on traction and conditions. You also have to be actively on the throttle, which also wants to push through whatever brake is on. Sounds like yours is working as best as it can.
