What's going on fam?

Gonna be taking a trip to NC next month. North of Ashville right on the mountain.

Looking for good trail suggestions even if I have to travel elsewhere.

Im looking for medium trails as I'll be alone and I'm not a super experienced offroader

I have done Charlie's Creek in GA, entering the "backway" which was my first difficult road as it was lots of large rocks and a cliff on the side lol

But that was a funny little trail.

I also did the area in and around Nemos Tunnel in Tennessee.

Looking for places like that. A little bit of medium offroading and some nice exploring/overlanding to maybe some Spooky locations

Right now my list consists of

1. Brown Mountain (the lights)

Any advice appreciated!

West of asheville off of I-40 is

1) "hurricane creek" (literally a right turn off of westbound 40) some good / tougher sections

2) "pisgah dirt road" search in google maps. Road 288 / cold springs creek / buzzards roost

3) max patch roads / area are nice rides too

We'll be up that way this weekend (Little Switzerland).

I'm not sure we'll make it off road, but there are a few OHV trails in the area listed on AllTrails I was thinking of hitting by Brown mountain. Note, I haven't been on these.

Rockhouse Creek Road FS 451 - Moderate
Steele Creek Trail - Easy

Looks like Horse Creek and Nelson High Point/Dick Creek Falls may be close to you in Cherokee NF.

If you are in the Brown Mountain area, you can take Brown Mountain Beach Rd to Mortimer and Edgemont. Mortimer is an old NC ghost town that was destroyed by a flood in 1941. Edgemont has a great little general store. The road follows Wilson Creek and has some great scenery, especially if the leaves are changing.

It’s mostly gravel, so nothing extreme, but there are quite a few off shoot roads that will take you deeper into the forested areas and are a little more “adventurous”.

Uwharrie National Forest has so great trails. Good trails from mild to harder... We spent two full days there. The Eldorado Trading Post, (Gas Station in the area). has great fried chicken and burger too.

For a nice drive on mostly graveled forest roads, we've driven this route before. It's about 45 min SW of Asheville in the western NC mountains with a nice lake (Lake Powhatan )at the northern end of leg. This will NOT be challenging but should be beautiful with the fall colors. See the orange route below...

Yes, There is usually other there also, so you will probably not be the only one there. If solo, I would not do the Daniel trail as that is the only one that may get you upside down or on your side with out a spotter. The rest of them including the badge trail, you can walk the harder obstacles and still do them with out a spotter.

Post in the NC roll call thread and you may be able to find someone nearby to go with.
Looks like youre in NC too? Have you been to Hurricane Creek? Looks pretty neat just not sure if only particular trails or all of it all together.

Not yet, we've only had the Jeep a little over a month. GSMJI and Jeeptastic Park took up two of the weekends, other than that we've just done some of the gravel cove runs in the Smokey Mountain National Park and the BRP.

Planning brown mountain this weekend and Uwharrie next month.

Definitely do Hurricane Creek. It’s the closest to you and a beautiful trail that time of year. Dumps out to Max Patch which is a great little hike on the Appalachian trail.

mesaage me once you have dates. I can probably get a group together to take you through it.

We will be headed that way Nov 11th through 15th.

Arrive super early 11th and leave around noon 15th.

Let me know! Would be fun to run with a group!
