Built 5/23 at 1500 and I'm on the recall list...two door Rubicon. I couldn't get a picture of the weld by the pitman arm.

I suspect dealers will be instructed to examine the weld for proper alignment with no regard to evaluating the “quality” of the weld. If the weld is in the proper location, it’s a pass.

Checked mine today when I found out that it was on the list for repair and the dealer had no idea about it.

Looks like they let a 4 year old with fix mine at the factory or something, these welds are terrible

You can see the factory weld that appears to have missed the seam and this was how it was fixed? from the looks of it it was all done before pain, i cant find any grind marks
Definitely looks like a repair job done at the Tower factory. See the very first complaint on the NHTSA website.

NHTSA ID Number: 11076098

Build 5/30/18 and confirmed that my Rubicon is on the recall. I very concerned as this is a family vehicle for me like many others. Also from the experience I have had with two dealers so far with other issues (steering, etc..) blowing off my concerns it doesn’t sit well that these same dealers will determine the fate of my welds for FCA.

Is there any rhyme or reason with build dates affected? I'm a really early build date, (arrived in mid January 18, ordered in like November/17)...
I’m guessing all the frames were pre-built and delivered to the factory. Then they sat there until the line was ready to start the build of the Jeep. Now, this doesn’t mean the frames were used in the order that they arrived. For example, a frame could have been built and arrived in Dec of last year and been used to build a Jeep starting down the line in Jun of this year.

It would make sense to use the frame as first in first out, but with everything else going on with this first year Jeep nothing makes sense.

Jeeps built in Dec have zero issues while some Jeeps built in Jun or July have multiple issues. You’d think the quality of the assembly line would improve as time goes on, but it’s hit or miss right now.

Also, these issues would not have come up during the extensive testing they did on the pre-production models. I’m sure those were built with a much greater attention to detail and mostly by hand.

Once you start to mass produce something quality suffers.

I ordered a 2019, do you think this issue will be fixed before it’s made?

I think your going to be fine. My jeep was built in July and is not included in the recalls.

Replacing the bar would be easiest perhaps. Why is a galvanized frame hard to weld?
Were the Jk frames not galvanized ?
JK frames were not galvanized. Galvanized steel is hard to weld because the zinc in the galvanized coating vaporizes below steel melting temperatures. If travel speed is too fast, the weld puddle will start to cool before all of the zinc is vaporized. This causes porosity. You can get a sense of the travel speed from the shape of the weld bead and it was definitely too fast (from welds I have seen), probably to reduce cost. New metal core MIG wires that contain arc stabilizers can help solve some of the issues of welding galvanized steel. Here's an article from Miller about it.

I'm taking mine in tomorrow. It was a June delivery ordered in May. App shows it is in the recall.
