The guys at TFL drag raced a new 2021 Toyota Tacoma, a new 2021 4-Runner and a 6 year old FJ Cruiser.

The Tacoma has the 3.5L V6 and 6-speed auto, the 4Runner and FJ Cruiser have the same 4.0L V6 and 5-speed auto. The FJ has 60,000 miles.

I can’t believe how slow these things are! Yes, they are in CO, but still: 10.08 to 10.20 seconds to hit 60 MPH.

Although the Tacoma has the newest powertrain it is the slowest of the three. The FJ Cruiser and 4Runner, with the same powertrain, were very close. The FJ was slightly faster, perhaps because the motor is already broken in.

I owned a 2019 Tacoma TRD Off-Road. I got rid of it mostly because it was a total dog to drive. But I never realized it was this slow!

For reference, in stock form our JLs do 0-60 somewhere between 6 and 7 seconds, depending on the engine; the new JL 392 hits 60 in 4.5 seconds.
