Anyone else get approximately a 4 MPG difference with their top off? I know none of us bought a Jeep to save fuel, but going from 19-20 on the hwy to 15-16 is disheartening.

Not sure anyone buys a brick on wheels for fuel efficiency. I sure as heck didnā€™t. Not even sure Iā€™ve checked MPG.

A 4MPG loss would not surprise me. The Wrangler is not very aerodynamic to begin with and topless, much less so. Especially at highway speeds. You're already dragging a large bubble of air behind you with a top on thanks to the "garden shed on wheels" shape. That becomes dragging a huge column of air behind you when topless.

I did a 600+ mile topless trip when mine was 6 months old and I didn't notice but a 1 or 2mpg drop to 17 mpg. I was driving interstate at 80mph compared to most highways being a tad lower.

I have a diesel and mine drops by about 2 mpg compared to when the hard top is on. Makes sense to me as air has more surfaces to grab into and slow you down.

Hard top off (but with a mesh sunshade on) I probably lose about 0.5-1 mpg on average. Nothing too significant for me. I could however see having the doors off adding a bit more drag and further reducing fuel mileage.

There is nothing wrong with being conscious of your efficiency, regardless of the fact itā€™s a wrangler. Donā€™t mind some of these comments.

4mpg is a little steep, Iā€™d estimate mine to be about a 2-2.5mpg difference from my hardtop to no top. Modularity was a big consideration point when choosing the wrangler, so I still try to enjoy it when the UV index is low.
