Took My 392 XR On The Highway For The First Time Today

Thor (at about 445 miles on the odometer) had his first trip on the highway today, topping out at about 80 mph. Handled very, very well. This 392 Wrangler with XR package feels right at home on the highway. Biggest difference is the higher center of gravity, making me hesitate to dart too quickly from lane to lane or make sharp turns. I probably could do that, and will get braver as time goes on, but because I'm sitting up so high tipping over is always in the back of my mind. Regardless, this thing handles very smooth and surprisingly straight on the highway, I don't find myself making constant corrections to the steering wheel. I say smooth, but I live in south Florida where highways are always smooth. I have no idea if it would ride so smooth on some cratered highways above the Mason Dixon line, but in ideal ride conditions this beast does exceptionally well at high speed. We ended up where many people go who buy fully decked out 392 XR's- the mall. Here's Thor today enjoying his morning at the mall after his first highway drive-

I had taken delivery of my 392 in later October from PA to FL and it was all highway. The 392 drove very straight with not much correction needed compared to my other JL Sahara on a Mopar lift and 35's

There’s some middle ground between not giving a shit at all and caring a lot.

I mean the fuel cost difference, depending on where and how you drive it, between it and the 4xe is nearly enough to pay for a lease on a 4xe. Well it was before the money factors went up in May.

What kind of MPG are you getting?

I'm averaging just under 14.5 with mine. I do a good mix of driving and don't always stomp on it, but have done so occasionally, when needed/wanted.

Hey going to the mall on the highway in your new jeep is no joke you can get more damage or theft there than you will on the trails.

I just put 1,000 miles on mine and am getting about 15mpg with mostly town driving. I could probably get 17mpg if I would stop punching it so often.......but I just can't help myself...especially when I'm passing one of those Ford Doncos.

Congrats! I just placed my order today for a Bright White 392. Now you have me contemplating about the factory stripe option.

The only mod I plan on is adding is a set of Mopar 4" wide running boards/rock rails. The standard rock rails don't offer much lower paint protection with 35” tires.
