My tires are already pretty much at 10,000 miles and I've already done 2 tire rotations at 4,000 miles each because I do them when I do my oil changes. My local tire shop does my tire rotations for free but I didn't think of this until now I just assumed that they would do a 5 wheel rotation so I didn't tell them or ask them to do a 5 wheel rotation so the last two rotations were 4 wheel rotations. I feel like at 10,000 miles my 5th tire would kinda throw things off if I were to throw it into the rotation since its never been used and I'm already at almost 10,000 miles but was curious to see what you guys think. 10,000 miles too late to add in the never used 5th tire into the rotation or should I just stick with the 4 wheel rotation? When my tires go bad and I need to get new tires should I just get the 4 replaced but leave the 5th tire the same and just keep doing the 4 wheel rotation? Since the 5th tire is going to have some wear over time from weather and environment would it be a bad idea to do a 5 wheel rotation when I do end up getting the 4 tires replaced in the future?

I would say go to your tire shop and have them put the worst one on the back and put the spare into rotation, 10k miles is not much

It is not too late to start a 5 tire rotation. You may want to make it clear with them what your 5 tire rotation pattern looks like. This is what I use.

I have the same question, but at the 15K mark. Tires are BFG KO2 All Terrains at the stock 33” size.

Im kind of in the same situation but not as many miles. My plan is to put the spare in and not put it back on tailgate for quite a while. A few full rotations

You can visit your local Discount/America's Tire Location, and store personnel will provide a Free Tire Inspection, and advise you on what rotation procedure will be best for your particular situation.

I brought the JLUR in today for an oil change at my local Jeep dealer and asked them to consider doing a 5 tire rotation. They smartly said they would measure the tread difference between the spare and the 4 others. They said that if there was less than 3/32 of a tread wear difference, they would do the 5 tire rotation. They found that the never-driven spare had 4/32 more tread depth than the 4 tires on the ground and recommended to not include the spare in the rotation.

until what?

until the 4 tires on the ground are worn out and you have one sun-baked unused tire on the spare rack?
then what?

if i had come into a new/used vehicle with treadwear like what you describe, i'd take the most worn tire and put it on the Spare carrier, and put the Spare down on the rear. i might swap that tire back and forth on the rear through the next couple of rotations while moving the rest around (always putting the most worn on the Spare carrier) until they were all close enough in wear to continue with a normal 5-wheel rotation pattern. it probably won't take but 1 or 2 rotation intervals with the wear you described.

dealers don't want to be bothered with the spare. they don't like having to remove and reinstall them, and they are eager to avoid a 'pull' situation that comes from a tire with mismatched use, so they just don't want to mess with them.
