The oil collected every 2.000km is very similar to the original oil. I never found any water into the can bottom, due the can size. Colour an density were similar to the original oil. For that reason I have refilled the engine with the oil collected. I can image that if you are using a big can, (half one litter or bigger) it can condensate water. This one, not.

I installed a UPR today and the quality of construction and connections are outstanding. The OEM PCV hose I removed had oil inside both ends and I dabbed inside the intake opening and there was some oil inside as well. I only have 11K on it and for me, despite the lack of immediate ROI, I am good with the cost.

It is clear that always it is preferable to introduce fresh oil into the engine. But you will also know that normally PCV valves act as oil vapour condensers and by gravity, that oil falls to the engine rocker cover. So it's the same thing I do.
If I refill the oil at home, then I throw away the oil from the can, but if I am travelling and I don't have a container for used oil, I refill it to the engine.

My thoughts on a catch can are based on the oxidation of internals - especially valves due to using 10% ethanol. That oil help lubricate valve guides and valves themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if engines with catch cans go 150k-200k without having major engine problems. Running non-ethanol, go ahead with a catch can.

I believe that the oil can catch will provide the best benefit to the gas engines, instead petrol engines (diesel). This is because the engine will not burn oil and for that, less carbon deposits in the combustion chamber (also if you are looking for an friendly enviromental engine: less smoke).

Since nearly everyone here is a complete newb ill sage this tread...

the 3.6 does not need a catch can and its just trowing away money. 2.0 NEEDs a catch can because its direct injection and the pcv and EGR are going to put a lot of crud on to the intake valves. Even with the can you’ll still probably be pulling the heads at 100k because one or more cylinders will be losing compression from all the buildup on the valves.

Based upon what? Sure seems like the 3.6L dumps a fair amount of oil into the intake based upon the photos others have posted here.

Which is fine because the oil is followed by a nice shower of detergent gasoline. That doesn't happen with a 2.0 because the gasoline is injected directly into the cylinder.

Agreed on the DI part since there is no "backwash" on the rear face of the valves, but is it really "fine" to have oil in the intake and ultimately into the combustion chamber?

My 3.6 is not only getting a UPR catch can, it is going to get BG CF5 and 44K on a regular basis. As well as BG MOA in the engine.

Well ideally you wouldn't want anything in there besides fuel and oxygen. And that's not happening unless you completely delete your PCV system (not just a catch can) and EGR.

Don't like catch cans personally because I would rather have a steady trickle of oil making it into my intake, as opposed to having a reservoir that can fill up and dump its load all at once. But different strokes for different folks.
