I've got a 2022 JL Sport S. It came with 245/70 R17 Michelins. Nice tires, but I'd like a beefier look. So, can I put 265/70 R17 size A/T tires on it with no ill-effects? I'm looking at Hercules Terra Trac AT X Journey or, maybe, the Venture. (I'm mostly on-road as opposed to off-road.) Any thoughts on those? Thanks, Mike

You can technically run 285/70R17's ("33's") without any changes and it'll be fine. I have Rubi take-offs on my '21 Sport Altitude, and they're perfectly fine. You'll want to adjust the speedo w/ a JScan or Tazer, and you'll get a slight hit to your MPG, but otherwise they're perfectly fine.

If I read your answer correctly, are you saying I won't need a speedo adjustments with the 265s? Just with the 285s?

285/70/17s here. I did use a tazer to adjust for tire size just for peace of mind and to adjust the tpms threshold. 265s you might off 1-2mph without adjusting for the new size.

I'm running takeoff Rubicon 285/70/17 wheels and tires. They are awesome in comparison to the oem Firestone M/T 255/75/17 . I updated the speedo using jscan.

I don't have the picture saved on my computer but I have a couple of pictures in my build thread. I am on 285/70/17's and I do not notice any ill effects. The transmission seems to shift a bit later for the added weight but otherwise everything is perfect.

Just ask @cosine he knows!
OP, welcome to the site. I'd look at a more name brand tire, some off brands are ok but most are quite poor overall. You might pay a bit less up front but a proven tire w/ a reliable history is more important. The plan for Rubicon takeoffs is solid, most of the time they are BFG ATs but sometimes they are Wildpeak ATs, both are nice tires.

Correct. A 245/75-17 tire has an almost identical diameter as a 265/70-17 tire.

I'm a week into a set of 285/70r17 Micky Thompson Baja Boss A/T's and they are fantastic on the pavement (getting them dirty for the first time this weekend). No louder than the stock Goodyear's, but feel worlds better. Running them @ 31psi for now - may go a lb or two lower after a chalk test- and they really soak up the road 'chatter' that came through the GY's. I am 2.5" over the stock sport s (rubi takeoff lift) so clearance is not an issue for me.

Take offs are usually your best bet.

I particularly like BFG all terrains if buying tires.

The 265/70/17 is approximately the same height as your 245/75/17, but wider. You can also go with 255/75/17, 275/70/17 or as mentioned above, 285/70/17.

You really don’t need to correct the speedometer for the 285s. My sister went from 245/75/17s or her Sport to Rubicon takeoff 285/70/17s and made no adjustments, no lift. Her speedo was about 3 MPH fast stock and now is right on, checked with a GPS phone app.

Hercules are a sub brand of Cooper (which is now owned by Goodyear). They are okay for trail or ranch use. Not worth the little you will save. Go for the Coppers, look at the General Grabber AT 2, or any other reputable brand. But, you can likely buy a set of 5 brand new Rubicon wheel/tire set for about $1200 or so. About the same as 5 new tires mounted and balanced. Then you can sell yours for about $400 or so to offset the cost. Don’t buy a set from a Gladiator, as you will have a hard time finding a single matching wheel/tire for the spare. Yes, you want a matching spare.

On edit, avoid load range E tires, as you will probably not like the much stiffer ride. Stick with SL, XL or load range C.

I put on a set of snows (Nokian 265/70/17) and these steel wheels. Same diameter tire, just wider. So far, I can't complain.

Rubi take offs on mine as well. The BFG's are pretty good off road and on. A little slippery in the rain though.

As I don't plan to do any serious off-roading, the Hercules Ventures just might be a good economical choice. Here in The Great White North, a set of five go for ~$1500 (not including installation), so not really that cheap. And my Michelins should get me well over $800 as they have just 2000kms on them. Good as new. Thanks for your input!

I'm running KO2 35s (really 34.4) on D30/D35 no problems so far at 60k miles. 2 door is a lot lighter so you'd be even less likely to have issues than a 4 door. On road qualities of these tires are very respectable IMO.
