So, before I pull the trigger (I apologize in advance, as this may have been posted several times before) and purchase 35" tires, I want to make sure that I have my backspacing and offset calculated correctly, or I might be selling some brand new wheels and tires.... Clayton's website states "4.75 backspacing recommended ". If I were to order a 17x8.5" wheel, in order to achieve the 4.75" of backspacing, I would need to purchase wheels with +0.00mm offset?

Is this correct and does and are there any other recommendations for backspacing?

Thanks in advance! I included a picture of the lift with stock wheels for your enjoyment.

Yes, 17x8.5 with a 0 offset has a 4.75” backspace.
If you are planning on running a 35x12.5 tire they will stick out approximately 2.25” past the fender.
If you have any other wheels your looking at and have questions on offset/backspace let me know.

If you desire a slightly narrower stance the 5” (real) backspaced XR wheels work fine with 35 x 12.5” tires on 2.5” Overland+ lift. I’m not sure I’d seek them out aftermarket, but if you found a pair of takeoffs for a good price they work without rubbing.

@Hucke_250 can double check my math, I would recommend playing around with the Wheel Offset Calculator and the Offset Converter (https://tiresize.com/wheel-offset-calculator/). It will show you how different offsets will move the tire closer and further from your suspension. Clayton is still recommending 4.75 backspacing for the *392* 2.5" OVERLAND+ Lift Kit.

So... Let's look at some of the math:
8.5 in wheel with 4.75" = 0.00mm (recommended by Clayton)
8.5 in wheel with 5.72" = 25mm (AEV wheel)
- The 5.72" backspacing for the AEV will bring the inner sidewall to the suspension and frame 0.98" closer than what is recommended by Clayton. This means, it will likely rub.

9 in wheel with 4.75" = -6mm (recommended by Clayton)
9 in wheel with 4.75" = -6mm (Quadratec)
- Good to go!

For stock wheels, 17x7, Jeep has them set at 44mm. I am not sure of the backspacing and offest for 392 wheels, but I would assume that it is something similar. All of this being said, I am not an expert but the people @Clayton are, so you can give them a call to confirm what would fit with their kits (203-691-8593). When I put the stock wheels on the Overland kit, the rear wheels were rubbing against the sway bars. I threw on some 1.75" spacers and everything was great, but the Jeep looked goofy with small tires. the 4.75" backspacing is perfect. Just an FYI, I got rid of the rear sway links from Clayton and replaced them with Synergy links. All of Clayton's stuff is A++ except the garbage sway links.
