Hey guys,

So I found a local guy through Facebook Marketplace selling a used Mopar 2" kit that was used for 8k miles. He's asking $500. I sent some messages back and forth and he seems legit. Said he is taking the lift off so he can install 1 ton axles, long arms, coilovers, etc. He also invited me to come see the Jeep (a 18 Rubicon JL) before he takes the kit off.

I'm just a little leery of buying a used lift kit, especially with the bowing problem the springs on the early kits had.

Thoughts or suggestions?

Price is pretty decent, unlike most people you can test drive before you buy, so that's pretty cool.

If you're worried about spring bow, pick up a set of our front spring seats and a set of track bars and the jeep will do fine.

If the springs did have bowing issues, would that not have a permanent effect on the spring?

Depends on how long they've been forced into that position but yes that is a possibility.

RK is on point with their advice. When buying a used kit, I would also become familiar with what parts came in the kit, and make sure you get everything, or that you are aware of what you are missing and will need to replace if you buy it. A lot of times you may not get all the little nuts and bolts, but that's why you are getting a deal versus New.

According to the web:
PARTS INCLUDED
  • Front & Rear Coil Springs
  • Front & Rear Shocks
  • Front Control Arms with Flex Style Bushings
  • Sway Bar End Links
  • Extended Bump Stops
  • Installation Hardware (BOLTS Hex Flange Head. M8x1.25x21.00, with nuts)

This kind of question, and especially this kind of response, is why I originally joined up.

Well done, gents.

So I was able to get a pic of the kit as it currently sits on the seller's Jeep. See attached. The spring certainly looks bowed to me, but then again I haven't seen many of these kits installed up close. Wanted to get some opinions on the pic. Thanks guys!

I haven't seen the springs bowed in like that, usually theyre bowed out in the center. Could be they weren't positioned properly in the top rubber isolator. Doesn't mean anything is wrong with the springs I wouldn't think. I would still get the spring correction pad from RK or rancho.

Yea, especially if they were only on for 8k miles. Going to look at the kit today while still on his Jeep. And I am definitely planning to get a correction pad.
